Hull FC prop Mike Burnett is struggling to make the start of the new Super League season after having an operation to remove his appendix.
Burnett and centre Tony Martin have both been forced to miss Hull's pre-season training camp in Tenerife.
Martin, Hull's close season signing from the ill-fated Crusaders, has been struck down with a flu virus.
And Burnett was taken to hospital for an operation to remove his appendix after he reported stomach cramps.
With a recovery time usually estimated at around two weeks, it is a setback to 23-year-old Burnett's hopes of a fresh start in the Black and Whites' front row following his return to the KC Stadium after a season-long loan at Harlequins.
Hull, eighth in Super League last term, start the new season at home to last year's table-toppers Warrington at the KC Stadium on 5 February (1500 GMT).
