Salford City Reds' new coach Matt Parish says he remains hopeful over the future of Stefan Ratchford.

The 22-year-old back is out of contract at the end of the season and has attracted interest from several clubs.

Parish, who was appointed last month but officially took over this week, said he would be disappointed if Ratchford decided to leave the club.

He told BBC Radio Manchester: "I had a good conversation with him and every indication was that he's keen to stay."

He added: "It's a decision he has to make, and he must make the one he thinks is right for him."

Ratchford made his debut in 2007 and has played more than 100 games for the Reds.

"If he stays, I know I can work with him very well and help improve his game," Parish continued. "If he goes, then it will be an opportunity for someone else."
