Devon's Marcus Bateman is taking nothing for granted ahead of the final round of trials for the GB Senior Team.

The 28-year-old, who has been part of Team GB since 2006, knows competition is fierce with London 2012 looming.

He said: "The trials are highly intense, however that is one of the things that makes our team successful.

"It is always better to have people trying to take my place, it will be a question of survival of the fittest between now and London 2012."

He continued: "I love racing and I truly believe that these trials elevate my performance on the international stage."

Last season saw Bateman and double sculls partner Matt Wells win silver at the 2010 Rowing World Championships in New Zealand.

Fellow Devon rower Bill Lucas will also be competing at the trials, held at Dorney Lake near Etonexternal-link this weekend.

Lucas, 23, finished fifth in the men's quadruple scull at last year's World Championships.
