Rio Olympics 2016: USA's Michelle Carter wins women’s shot put gold with final throw

Michelle Carter of the United States won the women's shot put in dramatic fashion by beating defending champion Valerie Adams with her final throw.

Carter, 30, was in line for bronze but threw a massive personal-best distance of 20.63m.

New Zealand's Adams, 31, won gold in both Beijing and London but had to settle for silver on this occasion after she failed to improve with the final throw of the competition.

Hungary's Anita Marton took bronze.
