Rio Olympics 2016: Netherlands take women's lightweight double sculls gold

The Netherlands finished 1.1 seconds clear of the field

Maaike Head and Ilse Paulis won gold for the Netherlands in the women's lightweight double sculls at Rio 2016.

The duo finished 1.1 seconds clear in a time of seven minutes 4.73 seconds to secure the second Dutch gold of the Games and their second rowing medal following a silver in the quadruple sculls on Thursday.

Canada won silver with China taking bronze.

The Netherlands are 13th in the medal table with six medals.

Britain's defending champion from London 2012 Katherine Copeland, rowing with Charlotte Taylor, failed to qualify from their women's lightweight double sculls heat on Monday.
