Rio 2016 organisers say they are seeking a new location for water polo matches at next year's Olympics because the proposed venue will not be ready.
Water polo was scheduled to be held in the Julio Delamare aquatic park but work on the venue has not yet started.
Disagreements between the state government, which owns the property, and the private company that manages it have led to delays.
Matches could be moved to the main swimming venue at the Olympic Park.
Leandro Espindola, a senior official with the state of Rio de Janeiro, met International Olympic Committee members on Thursday.
He later told reporters that finding a suitable replacement venue "doesn't worry us".
