Eugene Laverty has a best finish of fourth in MotoGP this year

Eugene Laverty took 12th in the Malaysian round of the MotoGP series to retain his 12th position overall in the championship on 77 points.

The Aspar Ducati rider will compete in the final round in Valencia on 13 November, before switching back to World Superbikes for the 2017 season.

Italian Andrea Dovizioso took his first victory for seven years in Sepang, with Valentino Rossi second.

Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo completed the podium places.

Marc Marquez had already sealed the championship and now has 278 points, followed by Rossi on 236 and Lorenzo on 208.
