Eugene Laverty claimed another point in the MotoGP world championship by finishing 15th in the Mugello round.

The Aspar Honda rider finished 53 seconds behind winner, Jorge Lorenzo, who secured his third consecutive win in the series on a Movistar Yamaha.

Ducati-mounted Andrea Iannone was second, with Lorenzo's team-mate Valentino Rossi in third position.

Laverty secured his maiden points of the season with a 14th place at Le Mans in France two weeks ago.

Toomebridge rider Laverty was the third rider to take the chequered flag in the Open category, behind 12th-placed Loris Baz, and Hector Barbera, who was 13th.
