Belfast Giants brought a five-game losing streak to an end by defeating Hull Stingrays at the Odyssey.
The Giants stormed into a 3-0 lead thanks to Mike Kompon and Dave Phillips goals in the first period and Ray Sawada netting early in the second.
Carl Lauzon pulled one back for the Stingrays and the Giants endured a tense finale after he made it 3-2 eight minutes into the third period.
Belfast are back in action on Sunday with a league game at Cardiff Devils.
Friday night's win was a much-need confidence boost for the Elite League champions after a miserable run of eight defeats in their previous 10 matches.
The slump in form ended hopes of retaining the title while coach Steve Thornton strongly criticised his team following last weekend's losses against Edinburgh Capitals and Sheffield Steelers.
The Giants have six league fixtures remaining before their last chance to clinch a trophy this season in the play-offs.
