The Scottish Thistles lost 41-36 to Surrey Storm Netball on Saturday in a pre-season friendly.
It meant there was no debut win for the Scots' new coach, Gail Parata.
Surrey trailed the visitors to Guildford 12-8 after the first quarter but they fought their way into the lead and managed to retain that advantage.
The match was a warm-up for the Thistles before they play the reigning Commonwealth champions New Zealand in a double-header in Glasgow in January.
Surrey's victory was their fourth in a row before they begin their Superleague season away to Manchester Thunder on 3 February, one of five games for them that month.
