Paul Bird recovered from a crash with a spectator on his journey to the final stage of the Grizedale Rally to clinch victory at his home race in Cumbria.

Bird and co-driver Aled Davies were quickest on all six stages.

"Apart from a spectator not looking where he was going, which nearly put us off the road and resulted in me damaging my car taking evasive action, we had no problems at all," said Bird.

Alex Allingham and Chris Williams finished runners-up 33 seconds back.

Bird, a British Superbike team boss, last won the Lake District event 2009.
