A number of top drivers have signed up to take part in the Easter Stages Rally, which will form part of this year's Irish Tarmac Rally Championship.

The event will take place over one day on Saturday 30 March, starting in Lisburn and finishing in Ballynahinch after 12 stages of competition.

Darren Gass, Derek McGarrity, Garry Jennings and Kenny McKinstry will be among the top names taking part.

This year's Circuit of Ireland Rally was called off in December.

Confusion surrounded the fate of 'the Circuit' after two of the rally orgainsers issued contradictory statements on the same day.

It was later announced that the Ulster Automobile Club would run the Easter Stages Rally, which would take place as a national event, rather than having international status.

The rally had also been provisionally named in 2013 FIA European Rally Championship calendar.

Rally organiser Bobby Willis had blamed a lack of funding for the cancellation of the 2013 Easter showpiece, but added that he hoped the Circuit of Ireland would return in 2014.

The rally will begin at 09:30 GMT and end at 19:00.

McGarrity, Gass, Jennings and McKinstry will all drive Subaru Impeza cars.
