Plymouth Devils remain bottom despite a win against Glasgow

Plymouth Devils

Plymouth Devils remain bottom of the Premier League despite a 49-41 victory over reigning champions Glasgow Tigers.

Ben Barker scored a 15-point maximum, including a crucial last heat 5-1 with team-mate Ryan Fisher.

It proved a topsy-turvy encounter, with the lead swapping a number of times during the match.

Trailing by two points with four races remaining, Plymouth rattled off three 5-1 heat maximums to secure all three league points on offer.

Plymouth ended their away league fixtures with back-to-back defeats at the hands of Workington Comets and Newcastle Diamonds, on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

It means they have failed to pick up a single league point, including bonus points, on their travels this season.

Devils lost influential number one rider Ben Barker with a wrist injury in heat one of their match at Workington on Saturday.

Without him, Plymouth suffered a 65-29 hammering, with only the American Fisher (10) troubling the Comets.

The following evening, with Barker still sidelined, the Devils were soundly beaten 64-30 at Newcastle.

Fisher (12+1) again top-scored for Plymouth, managing a race win along the way.

Remarkably Fisher's heat six success was the Devils only race win from both away meetings combined.

Plymouth must now win both their remaining fixtures to have any chance of qualifying for the end of season competitions.
