Ford says it was a 'dream' to defeat Swindon at Abbey Stadium

Poole Pirates promoter Matt Ford was delighted with his side's start to the defence of their Knockout Cup title.

Poole thrashed Swindon Robins 62-28 on Thursday and the result was the biggest away victory since Ford took over promotions rights at the club in 1998.

Ford told the club website: "It was a dream - a nightmare for [Swindon boss] Ronnie Russell, but a dream for us.

"The lads were brilliant and deserve a hearty reception on on Wednesday night for the second leg."

Poole, who are already without the injured Christian Hefenbrock, lost Renat Gafurov during the meeting when the Russian was forced to withdraw with a concussion.

"It was a shame for Renat, who took a bit of a bump to the head, but I am sure that a few days rest will do him good and he will be ultra-keen to get out there on Wednesday for the second leg," said Ford.
