  1. Goodbye!

    Roger Federer

Well Roger, you are through so all is good in your world.

He will be back on Saturday for the semi-final.

Against who? We don't know yet. Join us tomorrow to find out when Alexander Zverev meets John Isner before Novak Djokovic plays Marin Cilic in the other group.

    See you then!

  2. 'I wanted to go out with a bang'

    Federer 6-4 6-3 Anderson

Roger Federer thinks the qualification scenario going into the match helped him more than Kevin Anderson:

"I think it was maybe different for Kevin because he knew he had qualified and Thiem winning helped me to be more relaxed.

"But I always wanted to go out with a bang, win the match and if I go through great."

Federer was absolutely sensational. He is such an amazing role model. He's loved, and people will miss him whenever he retires, so we should all enjoy and admire while he's still playing tennis.

    Federer 6-4 6-3 Anderson

Roger Federer on bouncing back from that opening defeat by Kei Nishikori:

"These round robin formats are not straight-forward you feel like you can lose a match and still go on.

"We're used to you lose, you leave, you don't hang around.

"From that standpoint it was more straight-forward for me today."

  6. Post update

    Leon Smith

GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Radio

    Federer was absolutely sensational.

The form Federer has been in tonight and the form Djokovic is in, it's clearly the dream final to see those two play each other on Sunday.

John McEnerney: Justice served(no pun intended). Fed is in great form going into the last four. Hard to keep a great man down! He’s up and running now that’s for sure!

  8. 'Maybe I play better with my back against the wall'

    Federer 6-4 6-3 Anderson

Here's what Federer has to say...

"I'm very happy. The first match was tough against Kei, I never got going. With my back against the wall, maybe it is easier for me to play," the Swiss says in his on-court interview.

"I tried to come up with a good game plan against Dominic and also Kevin today. I'm happy it all worked out.

"I'm thrilled to be in the semis."

  10. Game, set and match Federer

    Federer 6-4 6-3 Anderson

Roger Federer's done it! No repeat of Wimbledon for the Swiss great, who pins Anderson back and forces him into the net.

Federer has won and that means he tops the group. Job done superbly.

  11. Match point Federer

    Federer 6-4 5-3 Anderson*

Now it is a third match point for Federer... Anderson could do with a first serve here...

  12. Post update

    Federer 6-4 5-3 Anderson*

These two have been here before...

Federer failed to convert a match point in their Wimbledon quarter-final and now he's blown two!

Gutsy stuff from Anderson who stays resolute in the longest rally of the match to outlast Federer on the second. Deuce...

  13. Match point Federer

    Federer 6-4 5-3 Anderson*

...but then Anderson is too keen with a forehand, clipping the net and seeing the ball ping out of bounds.

    Two match points for Federer...

  14. Post update

    Federer 6-4 5-3 Anderson*

Anderson won't ever disappear without a fight. A baseline battle ends in Anderson wrongfooting Federer with a forehand down the deuce side for 30-15...

  15. Post update

    Federer 6-4 5-3 Anderson*

Anderson serving to stay in the match... and he's already 0-30 down. The South African scrapping for survival here...

  16. Post update

    Federer 6-4 5-3 Anderson*

Anderson goes long for 15-0. Actually, he didn't it was on the line. He should have challenged.

On we go... Anderson clubbing into the net for 30-0 and Federer bounding forward to hammer in a volley for 40-0.

No mistake this time from the 20-time Grand Slam champion, confidently whacking a forehand winner to seal an easy hold.

  17. Post update

    Leon Smith

GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Radio

Talk about passion, hunger and desire and Federer threw his body at the ball to reach it in that game.

He works so hard on his conditioning and you can see he links it to what he needs to do when he is on the court playing.

  18. Federer breaks

    *Federer 6-4 4-3 Anderson

    Deja vu.

Roger Federer gains the upper hand in the seventh game, exactly like he did in the first set.

Can he hold on to serve this time?

  19. Break point Federer

    Federer 6-4 3-3 Anderson*

Serve is king so far as we go midway through the second set - just like it was in the first. And then Federer made his move.

The Swiss has another peek at a chance as the backhand slice down the line cause more problems for Anderson, going long for 30-30.

And here is the break point! Anderson goes for broke with a forehand and pushes it wide.
