That's all until tomorrow, folks. You can read all about today's action over here.

  2. Coming up on Wednesday

BBC Two will be showing live coverage of the next stage of the Pete Sampras group, with Grigor Dimitrov playing David Goffin from 14:00 GMT.

And BBC Radio 5 live sports extra will bring you live commentary from the evening session from 20:00 GMT, as Rafael Nadal's replacement, Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain, faces Dominic Thiem.

  3. Post update

So Roger Federer finishes top of the Boris Becker group after two consecutive wins.

Alexander Zverev and American Jack Sock will now battle it out a place in the last four.

Marin Cilic has been knocked out of contention after tonight's result.

  4. 'Smart money on Zverev to make semis'

    Leon Smith

GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

The way that Federer dismantled Zverev, who I think did a great job but was pulled in all directions, that just takes its toll mentally as well as physically.

I would still sway towards Zverev against Sock when they play for the second semi-final spot on Thursday because he's a better player, and I also thin this fantastic run that Sock has had will hit him at some stage.

I think the smart money would be with Zverev.

  5. 'I'm excited for Alex's future'

    Federer 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 6-1 Zverev

Roger Federer speaking on court: "It was a good battle and I always enjoy myself at this beautiful arena. I have so much fun playing in London and I have been so successful here. Thank you for making it such a special night."

He's asked if he remembers what it was like playing the top players when he was Zverev's age. "It was so long ago I hardly remember," he joked.

"I don't think I qualified until I was 21 in Shanghai. It was a dream for me to be part of it, where the best players take part and you can slog it out against them, knowing you're only going to get better.

"I'm excited for Alex's future. He's a wonderful guy and a great, great player.

"I'n happy and relieved that I can play freely against Cilic, instead of it being a nail-biter. It's been a tough group so to be through in two matches is great."

  6. Post update

    Jonathan Overend

Radio 5 live sports extra commentator at London's 02 Arena

It’s a standing ovation for Roger Federer, through to the semi-finals for the 14th time and is there any stopping him?

The way he pulled clear in that deciding set, well, the experience told, the brilliance told and he just crushed Zverev mentally in the end.

  7. Game, set and match

    Federer 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 6-1 Zverev

A double fault from Alexander Zverev sends Roger Federer into the semi-finals.

A tough way to lose for the German 20-year-old, who was brimming with confidence in the second set.

    Roger Federer
  8. Post update

    *Federer 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 5-1 Zverev

Zverev is being pushed to the max.

The Swiss forces him to deuce, and then the German casually slaps a backhand into the net and Federer has match point.

  9. Post update

    Federer 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 5-1 Zverev*

The pair are stretching all over the court - leaping high, crouching low.

On the third trip to deuce, Federer lands a booming serve to take another advantage.

And the Swiss bangs a forehand into the corner to hold. He's one game away from the semi-finals.

  10. Post update

    Federer 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 4-1 Zverev*

Federer sends the first point long, and then Zverev lands a 93 mph forehand winner into the corner for 0-30.

Once again, the six-time champion pulls his way back into the game, landing an accurate forehand down the line.

Zverev earns one solitary break point and it's stolen from his grasp by another Federer forehand. To deuce...

  11. Federer breaks again

    *Federer 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 4-1 Zverev

Zverev races into a 40-0 lead before having a little wobble.

Actually make that a big wobble.

Federer claws his way back into the game, after the German fails to scale the net on a couple of occasions, and earns a break point on the advantage.

And the Swiss veteran snatches the double break as he outfoxes his opponent with a sliced backhand.

  12. Post update

    Federer 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 3-1 Zverev*

After that break, Federer holds to love. Brutal.

  13. Federer breaks

    *Federer 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 2-1 Zverev

Dang. Zverev was unlucky there. He thinks he's managed to rinse forward and nail a scooped approach shot, but it lands just wide of the mark.

And then he double faults for a seventh time.

The German gets off the mark thanks to a big serve but swings a forehand over the whitewash to hand Federer two break points.

Zverev then shanks a backhand wide. Fed's back in control!

  14. Post update

    Federer 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 1-1 Zverev*

Look out, Roger Federer has his game face back on. He's 30-0 up.

Zverev has a brief tete-a-tete with the umpire over an earlier line call (or lack of) as he goes 40-0 down.

The Swiss holds to 15 as Zverev swats a second serve return into the net.

  15. Post update

    *Federer 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 0-1 Zverev

The opening game is error-strewn for both players, but Zverev comes through it to get off the mark in the third set.

  16. Post update

Just a wee reminder that if Roger Federer wins this one, he's through to the semi-finals.

Alexander Zverev will then play Jack Sock for a place in the next round and Marin Cilic will be knocked out.

But we've still got a set to play...

    Roger Federer
  17. 'Federer went walkabout'

    Leon Smith

GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Zverev deserves it, he’s played such good tennis. Roger Federer will be absolutely kicking himself from having that early break in the set, 30-0 up and then those two bizarre double faults.

For whatever reason, the great Roger Federer went walkabout for a few minutes and Zverev has taken his chance.

  18. Game and second set

    Federer 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 Zverev

One break point goes amiss when Zverev nets.

Same again on the second opportunity.

The third brings out a rally...and Alexander Zverev breaks!

Wow, what a player this kid is. From a set and a break down, he's taken us to a decider! Great resolve.

  19. Post update

    Federer 7-6 (8-6) 5-6 Zverev*

Zverev pinches the first point off Federer's serve as he clips the tape and makes Swiss his opponent swing the ball over and out.

Federer lands a backhand into the net to make it 0-30.

A misjudged shot from Federer hands Zverev three break points.

  20. Post update

    Leon Smith

GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Federer is a little bit rattled, isn’t he? We don’t see him like this very often. It shows you how good a player Zverev is.
