Well that was pretty impressive, wasn't it? Andy Murray's quest for a second US Open crown and a fourth Grand Slam steams on. Kei Nishikori awaits in the quarter-finals. The Japanese may well be worried.

  2. Post update

More from Andy Murray: "I enjoy it here. It's an unbelievable court to play on and a fantastic atmosphere all the time. They are great conditions to play in.

"The next round will be a tough match. Kei has been to the final here and loves the hard courts. I played a really good match against him at the Olympics and I will need to do that again."

Andy Murray, speaking on court: "I played extremely well, tactically it was a good match. I served very well when I was behind in the game. I made very few errors and made it tough for him.

On registering a 141mph serve: "I served one at 145 in San Jose and the next day they recalibrated the gun because it was completely wrong. Tonight is the fastest serve I've hit. I only did it once - I think it was luck."

Murray was bursting with enthusiasm and intent and playing at a very, very high level throughout the match. After Novak Djokovic’s excellent performance last night, Andy Murray has played even better here tonight against a higher ranked opponent.

    Dimitrov 1-6 2-6 2-6 Murray

Andy Murray is through to the quarter-finals of the US Open, completing an absolute shellacking of Grigor Dimitrov when the Bulgarian puts a running forehand into the tramlines. I'd say it wasn't a contest, but it wasn't even that close.

Rain, what rain? Murray is not looking for any further delays. The trusty serve brings three match points...

  8. Dimitrov 1-6 2-6 2-5 Murray*

Murray is on his feet. Not a fat lot is happening. Dimitrov is under an umbrella held by a ballboy. Wolf whistles as Murray changes his shirt. We're going to crack on...

Here's a pickle. It's raining. Get on with it? The referee is out there...

  10. Dimitrov 1-6 2-6 2-5 Murray*

Dimitrov is swinging like a rusty gate here, taking his frustration out on the ball. Behind the Bulgarian, a lady moves out of her seat, drawing the ire of Andy Murray. Thunderous applause when Dimitrov seals a hold with an ace, but there's not long left in this one.

The rarest of rare things, a Murray error. 30-30. In contrast, Dimitrov errors are more common than rain in Manchester. Backhand slice wide, then a Murray ace. The world number two is a game away. Dimitrov's ordeal is almost over.

  12. Dimitrov 1-6 2-6 1-4 Murray*

A young chap, only four or five, lets out a yawn then spots himself on the big screen and waves with both hands. We're going through the motions here, the loudest applause coming for the points won by Dimitrov - they are the ones that prolong the match. No bagel for the Bulgarian. It's a start.

Dimitrov just wants to crawl into his bag and hide.

  14. *Dimitrov 1-6 2-6 0-4 Murray

How many more games might Dimitrov win? Two maybe? Murray, sweat-soaked shirt clinging to his body, adjusts his cap and bounces a ball. At the other end, Dimitrov ponders what he'll do with the rest of his time in NYC. "How long is the queue for the Empire State?" Murray nearly there.

Folarin Olawale: Fly the white flag or throw a towel in the ring. Dimitrov look lost on the court & Andy Murray's playing with much aggressiveness.

Levi Crisp: Goodness me Murray, this is amazing.

Oh yes! Coast to coast from Murray, corner to corner on the run to leave Dimitrov stuck in concrete. Double break. Start the car.

  17. *Dimitrov 1-6 2-6 0-2 Murray

Murray playing exhibition stuff now. Mr Stretch arms to reach a running forehand, cat-like reflexes for a stop-volley at the net. Two break points...

Jiten Chandarana: Don't think Murray will be too pleased not seeing Lendl in his seat when he looks over at the box.

Kate Zillah: Highlight so far is Jeff Tarango using the phrase "SHUT THE FRONT DOOR DAVID!" ! Loving this 5 live sports extra commentary!

  19. *Dimitrov 1-6 2-6 0-2 Murray

Yet another ace from Murray digs out a hold. It's been awesome from the Wimbledon champ. At the end of it all, the umpire tells the crowd "any seat will do". Get one quickly, this might be done soon.

  20. Dimitrov 1-6 2-6 0-1 Murray*

That's more like it. Huge serve, then a one-two to put a forehand away into open court. Fist pump from Murray. Deuce.
