  2. O'Sullivan favourite for Masters?

    Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-5 Shaun Murphy

    John Parrott

1991 world champion on BBC Two

The Masters is made for Ronnie. He loves it. He’s in his home town, he turns up, plays his match, goes home, has a sleep in his own bed, comes back, wins his next match, and usually ends up winning the trophy.

He’s won it seven times. There’s a very good chance it is going to be eight.

Remember, the Masters starts on 14 January, with full coverage on the BBC.

  3. 'One of the greatest sporting personalities'

    Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-5 Shaun Murphy

    Steve Davis

Six-time UK champion on BBC Two

On his day, Ronnie O'Sullivan is not just the most mercurial and most amazing player who has played the game, he is also one of the greatest winning machines we’ve had.

He is one of the greatest sporting personalities this country has ever produced.

    Shamoon Hafez

BBC Sport at The York Barbican

Ronnie O'Sullivan equalled Steve Davis' haul of six UK Championship titles by beating Shaun Murphy 10-5 in an high-quality final in York.

O'Sullivan also drew level with Stephen Hendry's 18 'Triple Crown' titles of the World, UK and Masters events.

The pair shared the first eight frames including a century apiece, but O'Sullivan seized control with four breaks over 50 and two further tons.

He won five frames in a row to clinch his 31st ranking title.

  6. 'He's still the best'

    Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-5 Shaun Murphy

    John Parrott

1991 world champion on BBC Two

Who would have thought when he won the event as a 17-year old, here he would be, all of these years later, still doing it?

There have been players who have come and gone from the circuit, but he’s still here and he’s still the best.

  7. Record-equaller

    Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-5 Shaun Murphy

Ronnie O'Sullivan now has 18 victories in 'Triple Crown' events - The UK Championship, Masters and World Championship - the same number as Stephen Hendry.

He also has six wins in the UK Championship - the same number as Steve Davis.

The way he has played today, you would be a brave person to bet against him claiming both records outright in the future.

  10. 'Murphy will be back'

    Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-5 Shaun Murphy

    John Parrott

1991 world champion on BBC Two

Shaun Murphy can look back at that and say, ‘what could I do?’

The standard he was up against was incredible.

    He will be back.

  11. 'Ronnie won't go off the boil'

    Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-5 Shaun Murphy

    Steve Davis

Six-time UK champion on BBC Two

He's not going to go off the boil. He has at least another two or three years at the top. Ronnie O'Sullivan in good form - not even top form - can still win events. It's astonishing how well he players.

It will be tough to win more world titles. It's only one tournament in the year - you can try to focus on specific tournaments but it doesn't always work out. It would be an incredible achievement.

    Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-5 Shaun Murphy

    John Parrott

O'Sullivan was absolutely magnificent tonight. From 5-5 to 10-5 was as close to perfection on a snooker table as you're likely to see. Shaun Murphy ran into a juggernaut.

  15. 'I can't believe I'm still playing'

    Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-5 Shaun Murphy

Ronnie O'Sullivan poses with the UK Championship trophy

Some quotes now from the champion, Ronnie O'Sullivan, who says: "Well done to Shaun, he has had a great tournament, playing fantastic all season, the records are great to equal. The fans have been unbelievable, I just tried my best all week, there is nothing left, I'm over the moon to win any tournament, never mind the UK Championship.

"We both can play better, he missed a few easy balls, had a little bit of bad luck and the other guy gets some momentum, that's just how snooker is, it's a tough school.

"I'm not much different (to the 17-year-old that first won the tournament). I just try to enjoy the game, express myself, attack the game and play how I want to play the game.

"I just love playing and competing. I just can't believe I'm still playing at 42 with all these grey hairs, I'm old enough to be some of these players' dads."

  16. I wasn't good enough in the second session - Murphy

    Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-5 Shaun Murphy

Runner-up Shaun Murphy speaking to BBC Two: I was really looking forward to the match. I came in knowing I'd have to be at my absolute best to beat Ronnie, but I wasn't good enough in the second session.

"I want to congratulate Ronnie for equalling the record - it's a phenomenal achievement.

"I've had a phenomenal 12 days in York - the fans have made it so special. It's not the ending I wanted, but I've had a great time."

  17. 'What a display'

    Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-5 Shaun Murphy

    Dennis Taylor

1985 world champion on BBC Two

I know he has said he doesn't care about records, but make no mistake, Ronnie O'Sullivan has put in so much hard work and practise for this UK Championship.

    What a display of snooker.

  18. BreakingO'Sullivan wins the UK Championship for the sixth time

    Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-5 Shaun Murphy (108-0, O'Sullivan breaks of 59 and 49)

He has done it. Ronnie O'Sullivan has secured his sixth UK Championship, to move him level with Steve Davis.

Sensational performance. He seals the final frame of the match thanks to frames of 59 and 49. It had looked like being tight when it was 5-5, but the Rocket turned on the afterburners to race to the title.

  19. Post update

    Ronnie O'Sullivan 9-5 Shaun Murphy

Another fine long red from O'Sullivan. No more second chances now for Murphy. Surely.
