  3. 'I was celebrating before it hit the net'

    Scotland 2-2 England

"I was away celebrating before the ball hit the back of the net [his second free-kick] as I knew that, if I got the ball round the wall, it was in.

"Then Harry Kane does what he does best by scoring right at the death and costing us three points.

"We've still got a great chance [of qualifying] as we've got four games left."

Craig Hurry: Needed to win today even then it'd be unlikely. Shame about today though, but brutal defence and that used to be our stronger part of the team, for too many years now it's our weakest point.

Steven Gilmartin: That was the most Scotland thing I have seen Scotland do

  6. Tale of the game...

    Scotland 2-2 England

    Statistics from Hampden
  7. 'A game we should win'

    Scotland 2-2 England

England manager Gareth Southgate on ITV: "It's a game we should win but two moments of brilliant quality from Leigh Griffiths turned it on its head. We have to have a mentality that we are never beaten and we showed that at the end.

"The second free-kick is a slip, I'm not sure there is a lot we could have done. We controlled the game completely but if you don't get the second goal you run the risk of an equaliser.

"We have to be more clinical, that is fair. We got into good positions and didn't finish. The objective is to qualify and we still sit top of the group."

  8. 'Like a middleweight boxer against a heavyweight'

    Scotland 2-2 England

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan on ITV: "You cannot do any more than what they did; it was like a middleweight boxer against a heavyweight. I can't remember anyone hitting a better free-kick and then hitting an even better one.

"We had an opportunity to get up the pitch [before Kane's equaliser] but lost the ball. The noise, at one point, made it impossible to hear anything."
