  2. Ireland do enough

    FT: Italy 10-48 Ireland

    Ireland scrum agaisnt Italy

Michael Morrow's report is up on the BBC Sport website and app.

Key line is "a comfortable win with a clear and accurate attacking identity was what was required from Ireland following consecutive opening defeats and that is what was delivered with an accomplished performance that will provide grounds for optimism before a meeting with Scotland at Murrayfield in two weeks."

  3. 'This group is on a journey together'

    FT: Italy 10-48 Ireland

Ireland fly-half Johnny Sexton speaking to ITV Sport: "It is always a tough place to come and they are a well coached side. We need to keep our performance level like that against two very good sides. This group is on a journey together and we would have liked to have that performance before."

  4. Post update

    Italy 10-48 Ireland

    David Humphreys

Former Ireland fly-half on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra & Radio Ulster

Well deserved, not the complete performance but a much better one. There was some shape to the attack but the ability of the carriers to get over the gain line - then the game becomes much easier. Andy Farrell will be very, very pleased with the performance.

It was a much more complete team performance, and give supporters confidence that Ireland have a clear idea of what they want to do.

Azrael: Italy have received the wooden spoon 15 times since 2000. Must improve more to stay at this level.

  9. Post update

    Italy 10-41 Ireland

    David Humphreys

Former Ireland fly-half on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra & Radio Ulster

Most of the Irish players have produced good performances, and the scoreline does not really reflect Ireland's dominance. It gives Andy Farrell something to think about over selection.

  10. Beirne named man of the match

    Italy 10-41 Ireland

Tadhg Beirne is awarded the man of the match bottle. He has looked good in the back row, mobile and menacing with the ball in hand...

  11. Post update

    Italy 10-41 Ireland

That was nice by Italy. Scrum-half Callum Braley chipping over the top for replacement centre Mattia Bellini to collect on the bounce...

  12. Post update

    Italy 10-41 Ireland

Ireland, still a man up thanks to Italy's indiscipline packing out the sin bin, secure a turnover on halfway. Jack Conan off the bench will take the credit in the post-match video debrief. Ireland sling the ball across to the other wing, James Lowe fires up the engine, but is bundled into touch.

The ball came off an Italian knee as he tried to offload. It will be a green throw into the line out, just inside the Italy 22m.

Former Ireland fly-half on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra & Radio Ulster

There are times when the camera angle distorts the picture - the officials are nearer the play. When it is not clear and obvious, carry on.

Shades of VAR and Decision Review in cricket...

  14. No try

    Italy 10-41 Ireland

Pheeeww. That was marginal.Craig Casey's pass is ruled forward and James Lowe's try disappears from the scoreboard.

Billy Burns is on for Robbie Henshaw in the Ireland backline...

  15. Try - Italy 10-46 Ireland

    James Lowe

James Lowe is over after taking the ball on a short burst from scrum-half Craig Casey. Was the final pass a little bit forward though?

  16. 'Tough few minutes for Italy'

    Italy 10-41 Ireland

    David Humphreys

Former Ireland fly-half on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra & Radio Ulster

Forwards always get excited by a driving maul try! The secret to a good team is mixing fluidity with a strong set-piece, and Italy just did not have any answer in terms of the physical. This could be a tough few minutes for Italy.

  17. Converted try - Italy 10-41 Ireland

    WIll Connors

Will Connors is the last man back to his feet as a mound of men pile over the Italy line.

    No chalking that one off.

    Johnny Sexton adds a conversion.

  18. Post update

    Italy 10-34 Ireland

Ireland are steamrollering a maul towards the line...

Angus McClymont: Why not invite Japan and Georgia into the 6 Nations then have two leagues of 4 with one up one down relegation/promotion? It may even help Italy develop.

JC, Wokingham: Re: the Italy question? Would reverting to a 5-Nations be the answer?

Anon: I wish people would drop this promotion & relegation idea. A tournament without the old domestic rivalries has no interest for me.

  20. No try

    Italy 10-34 Ireland

There was a little spill forward.

No try and Ireland take the chance to introduce a couple of replacements with Rob Herring on at hooker and Craig Casey making his debut at nine.
