  1. Argentina next for wounded Scots

    FT: USA 30-29 Scotland

What a dramatic match in Houston. It is a bitter pill for Scotland to swallow, a first defeat to the USA, but the Americans were worthy winners.

Next up for Scotland it is a trip to face Argentina in their final summer Test. The Pumas have found the going tough lately, but they will look to raise their game next weekend.

Plenty for Gregor Townsend to ponder ahead of the match, and we can expect the Scotland coach to name his strongest available line-up.

Keep across the BBC Sport Scotland website for reaction and analysis.

Thanks for your company and contributions today. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  2. 'A huge night for American rugby'

    FT: USA 30-29 Scotland

    Tom English

Chief sports writer, BBC Scotland at the BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston

The Americans are absolutely revelling in this and they deserve to. This was thoroughly deserved.

Scotland had too many under-performers and made far too many mistakes on the night. The USA were brutally physical, especially in the closing stages when defending their line.

It would have been a wonderful moment for Blair Kinghorn had he landed that conversion but Scotland did not deserve to win.

AJ MacGinty was masterful at 10 for the hosts. What a performance. This was their first victory against a Tier One country. A huge evening for American rugby and a sobering one for Scotland. Once again they have failed to get the job done on the road.

  4. Post update

    FT: USA 30-29 Scotland

    John Barclay

Injured Scotland captain on BBC One Scotland

Quote Message: The boys will be very disappointed with that. USA played very well but Scotland made a lot of uncharacteristic errors.
  5. Post update

    FT: USA 30-29 Scotland

    Andy Nicol

Former Scotland international on BBC One Scotland

Quote Message: Even if that final kick had gone over, I'm not sure we could argue Scotland deserved to win. There was a huge drop-off in the performance in the second half.
  6. Full-time - USA WIN!

    FT: USA 30-29 Scotland

Blair Kinghorn's conversion sails wide and USA register their first ever win over Scotland.

  7. Try Scotland! Dougie Fife

    USA 30-29 Scotland

Scotland keep chipping away at the USA defence and eventually it is opened up by a beautiful pass from Adam Hastings. Dougie Fife is over in the corner and Scotland have a touchline conversion to win it......

  8. Still in the balance

    USA 30-24 Scotland

Scotland again go for the rolling line-out maul and again the USA stop it illegally.

Wayne Barnes allows penalty advantage but play is halted for a serious looking injury to a USA player.

Scotland will get one more chance - surely this one is the last - to snatch victory in this game.

  9. One last throw of the dice

    USA 30-24 Scotland

The USA looked for all the world like they were playing the clock out expertly, running through the phases.

However, with 45 seconds left on the clock they are pinged at the breakdown and Scotland can once again kick to the corner.

This is the last chance for the Scots.....

  10. Last chance gone?

    USA 30-24 Scotland

The Scots win their own line-out and look to get the maul going but it is stopped, Sam Hidalgo-Clyne loses the ball at the base and the USA are able to clear.

In fact, the kick takes a nick off a Scottish finger so it is a USA line-out.

They will look to gather and run down the clock.

    The USA are almost there.

  11. Scots pushing hard

    USA 30-24 Scotland

The Scots get the rolling maul charging for the USA line and they halt it the only way they can - illegally.

Nothing comes of the penalty advantage so the Scots kick to the corner and surely another rolling line-out maul is coming......

  12. USA closing in on famous victory

    USA 30-24 Scotland

Scotland wing Byron McGuigan has found the going tough and he makes way for Dougie Fife.

It's easy to point to Scotland's shortcomings but it does feel more like a very good USA performance than a Scottish calamity.

The US have been relentless in their intensity and are now displaying huge heart in defence as the Scots look to find a way to pull this out of the fire.

  13. Disallowed try Scotland

    USA 30-24 Scotland

The Scotland replacements have had the desired and they finally inject some temp into their play in this second half.

Blair Kinghorn makes another searing break and Murray McCallum and Dave Denton both have big carries to keep the momentum going.

Mark Bennett is the one to make a dart for the line and he gets over, only to spill the ball as he goes to ground it.

Frustrating not to score but that is much more like it from the Scots.

  14. Scots empty the bench

    USA 30-24 Scotland

I'll just bring you up to date with more Scotland substitutions.

OFF - Nick Grigg , Jamie Bhatti, Zander Fagerson, Matt Fagerson, George Horne

ON - Mark Bennett, Allan Dell, Murray McCallum, Dave Denton, Sam Hidalgo-Clyne

  15. USA deserve their lead

    USA 30-24 Scotland

    Chris Paterson

Former Scotland international on BBC One Scotland

Quote Message: I think the USA deserve their lead, they've been by far the better team in the second half
  16. Try USA! Hanco Germishuys

    USA 30-24 Scotland

    Now then....

Both sides kick long, back and forth, back and forth. That continues for maybe six kicks until Matt Fagerson loses the ball in the air and fumbles, AJ MacGinty is onto it in a flash and pops a pass to Hanco Germishuys to stride home.

As if to underline the confidence flowing through the American side, MacGinty slots the touchline conversion.

"Houston, we have a problem," says John Beattie in commentary. Well it only took an hour!
