    FT: Bristol 28-20 Worcester

    Carl Hogg

"We didn't have real direction and our management of the game was poor.

  7. FT: Bristol 28-20 Worcester

Worcester will be very disappointed with that.

They lacked shape and commitment at times this afternoon and they're well and truly in a relegation battle now.

14-man Bristol, without Pisi from the 13th-minute of the game, came up with a brave performance capped by their exciting winger Tom Varndell.

He's now one try off Mark Cueto's Premiership try-scoring record, which stands at 90.

  8. Full-time

    Bristol 28-20 Worcester

    Tom Varndell

Wayne Barnes blows his whistle as the crowd erupts at Ashton Gate.

Bristol claim their first Premiership victory since April 2007 and more importantly, a victory against their local and relegation rivals, Worcester.

Despite playing much of the game with 14 men following Tusi Pisi's red-card for a dangerous tackle, Tom Varndell's hat-trick helps his side to a vital victory.

  9. Post update

    Bristol 28-20 Worcester

Worcester are trying valiantly until the end but they're being suffocated by the Bristol defence in the dying seconds of this match.

As it stand Warriors are going to get nothing out of this match...

  10. Post update

    Bristol 28-20 Worcester

Tom Varndell almost has a fourth as he goes for the intercept but knocks on in the process.

It's not to be for Varndell but the clock ticks down towards their first Premiership victory of the season.

  11. Post update

    Bristol 28-20 Worcester

    Bristol v Worcester

Bristol just need to keep possession here with five minutes left on the clock.

They're deep inside their own half, but the scrum goes down as Worcester are adjudged to have pushed too early and Bristol win the penalty.

  12. Missed penalty (Pennell)

    Bristol 28-20 Worcester

Oh dear. Chris Pennell with a poor effort on goal from the angle and that won't help Worcester's cause.

  13. Post update

    Bristol 28-20 Worcester

Could Bristol sneak a bonus-point win?

They need one try to do it and they've got 10 minutes left.

Worcester, meanwhile, need two scores to claw back the eight-point deficit, and remember, they've got their full complement of players to do it.

  14. Try (Varndell, con Woodward)

    Bristol 28-20 Worcester

    Tom Varndell

But Tom Varndell has other ideas and dives over the line for his hat-trick.

Bristol with an immediate reply just as Warriors found a way back into the game, but the away side's defence left something to be desired there.

Bristol have exploited huge gaps in Worcester's defensive line all afternoon.

Jason Woodward with a monster kick under huge pressure and Bristol are two scores ahead once again.

  15. Try (Hammond, con Pennell)

    Bristol 21-20 Worcester

Chris Pennell with great set-up play as he offloads to Dean Hammond who charges towards the line.

Hope for Worcester as they finally produce a moment of brilliance and the deficit it reduced to one point as Pennell adds the conversion.

  16. Post update

    Bristol 21-13 Worcester

Cries of 'off' ring around Ashton Gate as there are more problems under the high ball.

Tom Varndell is down after a tackle by Cooper Vuna but it's just a penalty this time.

  17. Post update

    Bristol 21-13 Worcester

    Bristol v Worcester

Bottom of the table Bristol seem to want this more at the moment.

Warriors have a line-out on their own five-metre line and they've been poor at the set-piece all afternoon.

They scramble possession and manage to clear their lines, but the home side will come again and the fans can sense something here.

  18. Penalty (Woodward)

    Bristol 21-13 Worcester

Jason Woodward stretches Bristol's lead out to beyond a converted try, an important milestone for his side as they search for their first Premiership win of the season.

An easy shot in front of the posts and Worcester have 22 minutes to respond once again.

  19. Post update

    Bristol 18-13 Worcester

Bristol hooker Ross McMillan on BBC Radio Bristol: "Will Hurrell is like an extra back-row out there. He gets straight onto the ball and there is no moving him.

"Bristol have done well because there is constant pressure from Worcester. What is going to be massive is the bench we have got a lot of people with a lot of experience."

  20. Post update

    Bristol 18-13 Worcester

Well, after a first-half full of fast-paced attacks and contentious decisions, this one has been rather more stagnant.

Both sides are struggling to get a real attack going and there's been no change to the score this half.

The tension is certainly ramping up though at Ashton Gate.
