  1. That's about it for tonight

    FT: Northampton 23-20 Gloucester

Thanks for joining us then folks, on an important night for Northampton Saints as they got back to winning ways in the Premiership.

For Gloucester, it's another close match in which they just haven't quite been able to get the win, after some narrow defeats and two draws - they remain with just one league win so far this season.

All that's left for me to do this evening is point you in the direction of my colleague Gary Smee's match report, which you can read here.

    See you tomorrow. Goodbye.

  2. Tomorrow's Premiership action

    FT: Northampton 23-20 Gloucester

If you enjoyed that game, be sure to join us again tomorrow as the weekend's Premiership action continues.

From 14:30 BST, we'll have full coverage of Saturday's two matches, which both kick-off at 15:00.

Leaders Saracens are at home to fourth-placed Leicester, while Harlequins host Worcester.

  3. Post update

    FT: Northampton 23-20 Gloucester

What does that result do to the Premiership table?

Well Gloucester stay 10th, but gain a losing bonus point and are level with Harlequins for at least 20 hours or so.

Meanwhile, Northampton are up to fifth, four points behind fourth-placed Leicester, who go to Saracens tomorrow.

  4. Reaction

    FT: Northampton 23-20 Gloucester

Northampton Saints' Tom Wood tells BT Sport: "We've been hurting over the last few weeks.

"The manner of last week's defeat really hurt us. We had a good honest look in the mirrror.

"We showed a lot of guts and got there in the end tonight."

  5. FT: Northampton 23-20 Gloucester

You may say I'm being harsh on the Scotland captain, but Greig Laidlaw's two missed first-half penalties have ultimately cost Gloucester victory here, regardless of your views on Saints' disputed first-half try.

The Cherry and Whites should not have trailed 13-3 at the break, on the balance of play, and they wouldn't have done so if Laidlaw had kicked as well in the first 40 minutes as he did in the second 40.

  6. FT: Northampton 23-20 Gloucester

It was close, it was nervy, but Northampton have the win they desperately needed. It is their third league win of the season.

Gloucester battled back admirably after half-time, but it just wasn't quite enough.

  7. Full-time

    Northampton 23-20 Gloucester

The clock ticks beyond 80 minutes and Gloucester still have possession in the Saints half...

But Saints win it back! They've won! That was tense.

  8. Post update

    Northampton 23-20 Gloucester

Gloucester have the ball along halfway - they won't have many chances left, if any, to save this game.

Seconds remain. But they do have possession.

  9. Post update

    Northampton 23-20 Gloucester

Both sides now have 999 Premiership tries.

The first to 1,000 will surely win this very, very tight game of rugby.

  10. Post update

    Northampton 23-20 Gloucester

Oh dear! Gloucester's Billy Burns and James Hook collide and they are penalised for obstruction - Saints win the ball back!

That could be a key moment.

And Saints win a penalty from the resultant scrum.

  11. Post update

    Northampton 23-20 Gloucester

Gloucester win another penalty, wide on their left, but this time they opt for a 22m line-out.

  12. Missed penalty (Hook)

    Northampton 23-20 Gloucester

James Hook's kick is straight, it's in line, it's got pace.... But it falls a few metres short! Northampton still lead.

  13. Post update

    Northampton 23-20 Gloucester

The hosts give away an unnecessary penalty along the halfway line.

And James Hook fancies himself to kick that from there - he is going for the three points from a sizeable 52m out.

  14. Try (Kessell, con Myler)

    Northampton 23-20 Gloucester

From the line-out, Saints go back in front! Louis Picamoles shows real strength to hold off the defence and offload for replacement scrum-half Tom Kessell to score a crucial try!

Stephen Myler, you hardly need me to tell you, adds the extras. His kick is as neat as ever.

  15. Post update

    Northampton 16-20 Gloucester

Northampton are applying some serious pressure now, desperate to get back into the lead.

They opt to kick the ball into the corner.

  16. Replacement

    Northampton 16-20 Gloucester

The hosts bring Ethan Waller on for brother Alex at prop.

  17. Replacements

    Northampton 16-20 Gloucester

Gloucester bring Cameron Orr and Matt Kvesic on, while taking off Paddy McAllister and Ross Moriarty.

  18. Post update

    Northampton 16-20 Gloucester

And now, after surviving that Saints onslaught, Gloucester win themselves a scrum.

They clear the immediate danger. That feels like a key period of pressure that's gone by without a Saints score.

  19. Post update

    Northampton 16-20 Gloucester

Northampton should score here - but it's superb Gloucester defending, especially from Richard Hibbard.

The hosts had 12, 13 phases of attack there, deep in Cherry-and-white territory, but could not find the space to finish off a try.

    Chance missed.

  20. Replacements

    Northampton 16-20 Gloucester

Harry Mallinder has indeed now gone off - but perhaps a little too late, from a Saints point of view.

I should also tell you that the England captain Dylan Hartley is also now on the field, as Saints make a fair few changes.
