  2. FT: Wasps 25-20 Exeter

So Wasps start their season with a comeback victory over Exeter Chiefs as Danny Cipriani makes his Premiership return and new boy Tommy Taylor shines at the Ricoh.

If you missed our live text, have a read of the match report here.

    Jimmy Gopperth
  3. 'We kept everyone in till the end'

    FT: Wasps 25-20 Exeter

    Dai Young

Wasps director of rugby Dai Young talking to BT Sport:

“That’s us all over. First half we couldn't find a way to play, so you have to give a lot of credit to Exeter’s line speed.

"But we challenged the players at half time to work harder and get into shape. And then the opportunities arose.

"The challenge with Danny has always been the bread and butter stuff. First half he was frustrated but in his first game with Jimmy [Gopperth] they worked well together."

  4. 'Let’s look at all the positives'

    FT: Wasps 25-20 Exeter

    Rob Baxter

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter on BT Sport:

“Fair play to Wasps, they wrestled the momentum of the game off us.

“It was a lack of patience for us when we had the ball. We decided to try some little things and they didn’t come off.

“We just talked in the dressing room about the bigger picture and the losing bonus point.

"There was an opportunity to get above par by being more clinical but we will take the bonus point and use it as a foundation."

  5. FT: Wasps 25-20 Exeter

Wasps hooker Tommy Taylor talking to BT Sport:

"The first half we gave them too many opportunities. But we showed fantastic spirit there and we just need to work on the start.

"You base any win on a good set piece but the back line today were fantastic.

"We have team spirit and you want to keep getting up for the boys. I’ve only been here a few months but I can feel it.

"It’s good to put a marker down in the Premiership."

  6. Full-time

    Wasps 25-20 Exeter

Wasps have done it. Two tries in the second half and they've beaten last year's Premiership finalists.

A win at the Ricoh on the opening weekend and a fantastic end to the first round of the season.

Exeter come away with a losing bonus point, a tough start for them.

  7. Wasps 25-20 Exeter

Wasps have the possession at the base of the ruck.

It could be a dull end to the game here. But it's a dangerous game to play in your own half of the field.

    20 seconds on the clock...

  8. Penalty (Gopperth)

    Wasps 25-20 Exeter

    Jimmy Gopperth

And it's good from Jimmy Gopperth.

Wasps with a five point lead and two to play.

  9. Wasps 22-20 Exeter

Launchbury punches the air as Wasps earn the penalty at the breakdown. Simon McIntyre looked to have secured the ball but there's a hint of him being off his feet on the replay.

Anyway, Gopperth will go for the posts.

  10. Wasps 22-20 Exeter

Wasps are surging towards the line in the rolling maul but the referee pulls them up for becoming disconnected. It looked a marginal call.

    Five minutes to go...

  11. Wasps 22-20 Exeter

Wasps are definitely looking more dangerous in this final five minutes.

After a failed attack Christian Wade makes his first tackle of the match and bundles James Short into touch. Not bad in the 74th minute.

Gareth Steenson comes on for Exeter, maybe a move from Rob Baxter after Slade's missed penalty.

He moves to 10 as Slade goes into midfield. Could Steenson be the hero for the Chiefs?

  12. Missed penalty (Slade)

    Wasps 22-20 Exeter

Henry Slade may have expected to get that kick but it was a tough ask and it goes wide of the posts.

    Exeter have to go again.

  13. Wasps 22-20 Exeter

Wade displays some sensational footwork within inches of the sideline but the referee blows his whistle just as the crowd get on their feet.

Wade was adjudged to have been offside and both teams welcome the pause.

This has been an intense opening fixture for the players.

  14. Wasps 22-20 Exeter

The crowd could feel it, and Wasps have done it. They're in the lead for the first time this season, but it's a slender advantage.

The game is breaking up slightly as a few of the Exeter players show signs of fatigue. We're into a period of kicking, as both sides have a huge 10 minutes to come.

  15. Try (Taylor, con Gopperth)

    Wasps 22-20 Exeter

Tommy Taylor with a debut to remember.

Wasps have shown Exeter the power of their pack.

They transfer the ball back to Taylor at the tail of the maul and Gopperth slots the kick between to posts to put Wasps ahead for the first time in the game.

  16. Wasps 15-20 Exeter

Henry Slade is forced into a long run back after a huge kick from Elliot Daly right into the corner.

Slade is up to the challenge and the ball flies off his boot, but Wasps have good field position here as Launchbury secures the line-out.

An easy kick in behind from Daly and it draws the error. Woodburn with a bad handling error to hand Wasps the advantage.

  17. Wasps 15-20 Exeter

Alec Hepburn with a huge hit on Tommy Taylor but even that can't stop the home side.

Wasps are stepping on the accelerator here and get in behind Exeter but they are unable to execute.

Chiefs survive the onslaught as both teams take a breather before Wasps throw at the line-out.

  18. Wasps 15-20 Exeter

A huge roar goes around the Ricoh as Exeter are penalised for collapsing the scrum, giving up possession in a dangerous area.

The crowd can feel it, Wasps are turning things around here.

  19. Try (Robson, con Gopperth)

    Wasps 15-20 Exeter

    Dan Robson

It's just as if they were reading this commentary!

Danny Cipriani finds the gap on the outside creating a three-on-two situation.

Christian Wade is the extra man and he slots the ball inside to Dan Robson to finish.

Lovely try and Wasps are right back in it.

  20. Wasps 8-20 Exeter

Wasps ring the changes as Matt Symons comes on to make his debut.

They need to try something different if they're going to overturn this 12-point deficit.
