  1. Winner takes all - who will join France?

For Ireland and Wales, their game against each other will act as a straight knockout game, with the winner taking the remaining automatic spot for the World Cup in three years' time.

France became the ninth team to qualify for the 2021 World Cup after winning their first two games against Wales and Scotland to secure a top-two qualification spot with a game to spare.

Scotland and today's losers will still have a chance to qualify for the tournament when they join four other European hopefuls in the last qualifying stage, with four teams qualifying for the finals. Find out about more about that below.

  3. What happens to the bottom two?

For the top two teams in the European Championship, the hard work is over and they can look forward to joining Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Tonga, Lebanon, Samoa and hosts England in the 2021 finals.

For the bottom two teams, there's a lot more to be done. They have a second chance to make the finals in October-November 2019 when they join Italy, Russia, Spain and either Norway or Greece in the last qualifying tournament.

Four teams will qualify for the finals from those six, so all is not lost for the European Championship losers.

One more place will be decided in two weeks' time when Canada, Jamaica, USA and Chile play semi-finals and finals to decide one qualifier from the America region.

The last place will be decided next year between the Americas runner-up, South Africa and the Cook Islands.
