  3. French the winner in Prague

Kate French took the individual gold at the Prague World Cup event a month ago as Great Britain took two of the podium places in the women’s event.

French used a strong swim and a dominant display in the fencing to hold off Russia’s Gulnaz Gubaydullina and set up her third World Cup win

Third place went to French’s team-mate Jessica Varley, who reached a World Cup podium for the first time with her laser run. “I’ve been working for this basically my whole life,” said Varley afterwards.

“I needed a good result,” said French, with Tokyo qualifying set to start. “I’m super happy that I pulled everything together today.”
