So that's the end of the Women's Hockey World Cup 2018.

The Netherlands are deserved champions. They've won the title for an eighth time.

But this two weeks will be remembered for a long time in Ireland. The Green Army have grabbed the attention of a nation.

Read all about the final here.

    Goodbye.

    Netherlands celebrate

    Sally Walton

London 2012 bronze-medallist on BBC radio 5 live

Netherlands have scored a hatful of goals this tournament - it only took them 32 minutes today to match Ireland's total for the whole tournament.

  3. Post update

    Netherlands 6-0 Ireland

    Nigel Ringland

    BBC NI reporter

There will be some disappointment - you want to win the World Cup if you're in the final - but they'll reflect in coming weeks and realise what they've achieved.

  4. 'Ireland players are a credit to their country'

    Netherlands 6-0 Ireland

    Sally Walton

London 2012 bronze-medallist on BBC radio 5 live

Ireland have done a stellar job this tournament and they are a credit to themselves, their families and their country.

The Netherlands had to be at their best to beat them today, and they have been at their best throughout the tournament.

  5. 'They'll be treated like heroes'

    FT: Netherlands 6-0 Ireland

    Nigel Ringland

    BBC NI reporter

It went the way a lot of us feared it might. But you can't take anything away from Ireland for what they've achieved this past two weeks.

They'll wake up tomorrow and their ranking will have moved up to close to the top 10 - which has massive ramifications for their chances of qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics.

They'll still be treated like the heroes when they get back to Dublin.

FT: Netherlands beat Ireland to win World Cup

A few Irish players are in tears but now the players come together in a huddle. Coach Graham Shaw is giving a speech. He must be so, so proud of his players.

They started this tournament 16th in the world, having never reached the knockout stages of the World Cup.

    They're now World Cup runners-up.

    Ross Bone

BBC Sport at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre

The Netherlands have been a class apart for the entire tournament so they are worthy winners of the World Cup.

As for Ireland, the scoreline is irrelevant. Their story has been absolutely incredible. Every single one of them deserves a hero’s welcome when they get home. They’ve done their country proud.

  8. Netherlands beat Ireland to win World Cup

    FT: Netherlands 6-0 Ireland

Now the coaches of both teams embrace on the sidelines. There's a fair bit of appreciation of each side's efforts there.

The Netherlands have won the World Cup for an eighth time.

  9. 'Ireland steamrolled'

    FT: Netherlands 6-0 Ireland

    Sally Walton

London 2012 bronze-medallist on BBC radio 5 live

The well-oiled machine of the Dutch absolutely steamrolled Ireland today.

Ireland will obviously be disappointed, but when the dust settles they'll realise what an achievement this is.

  10. BreakingNETHERLANDS WIN THE WORLD CUP

    FT: Netherlands 6-0 Ireland

The Dutch substitutes sprint onto the field and leap into their teammates' arms. They're now beaming in a huddle in the middle of the field.

The Irish players drop to their knees. It was not meant to be.

    Netherlands 6-0 Ireland

One minute to go. Grace O'Flanagan makes a good save for Ireland.

The Dutch players are getting up off the bench ready to celebrate.

  12. 'What's the worst that can happen?'

    Netherlands 6-0 Ireland

    Sally Walton

London 2012 bronze-medallist on BBC radio 5 live

Ireland need to take a risk if they're going to score. They need to take the game to the Netherlands in the last few minutes - what's the worst that can happen?

    Netherlands 6-0 Ireland

Netherlands have another effort on goal but it goes narrowly wide.

    Three minutes to go...

  14. Post update

    Netherlands 6-0 Ireland

Just five minutes left in this final now. The result is certain. Can Ireland get the goal their remarkable performances in this tournament have deserved?

    Ross Bone

BBC Sport at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre

Great determination from Nicci Daly to muscle her way through and get a shot off. It was a comfortable save for Josine Koning but the way the crowd reacted you’d think Ireland had scored. They’re lapping up every second of this final. As well they should.

  16. Post update

    Netherlands 6-0 Ireland

Cleared. The Ireland players throw their body in the way with the ball and sticks flying everywhere. They're braver than me.

  17. Post update

    Netherlands 6-0 Ireland

The atmosphere here is remarkable. Something other sports could definitely take note of. The music continues through play and the crowd belt out a few dance classics.

Ireland are going to have to defend another penalty corner...

That one is saved but another is coming.

    Crowd shot
  18. 'Mullan forced deeper'

    Netherlands 6-0 Ireland

    Sally Walton

London 2012 bronze-medallist on BBC radio 5 live

Kathryn Mullan has been forced to play deeper for Ireland today meaning she hasn't been able to be the lynch pin in attack she has been throughout the tournament.
