    And another!

  2. Post update

The wheels dangling off the front of the car, carbon fibre and gravel all over the place. Chaos.

    Valtteri Bottas
  3. Post update

In all of this, Bottas is still the fastest man out there in this session, but that is his day ruined. We're back under way with a green flag and we have 35 minutes left. Expect it to be very busy as twice the action has been paused.

  4. Post update

    Jack Nicholls

BBC Radio 5 Live F1 commentator

It was fairly heavy frontal impact for Bottas. He'll be OK but it's worth a precautionary check for sure.

  5. Post update

Valtteri Bottas is heading to the medical centre to be checked out. He said he was OK over team radio.

Verstappen crashes at Turn 10 #bbcf1

Chris Lord: Hope that Verstappen’s crash isn’t the unofficial highlight of the weekend

  7. Post update

For the second time this session, and the third today, we've got a red flag. Toto Wolff is not looking too happy with all of this.

It may all be good news for Lewis Hamilton though. Two of his main rivals have gone into the wall, hard, in this session.

  8. 'Exactly what he did not need'

    Andrew Benson

BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer at the Red Bull Ring

Bottas's season has begun to unravel in the last two races. Yesterday, he was saying how he needed to claw back some ground on Hamilton in the next month or so. This is exactly what he did not need

    Jolyon Palmer

Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

Massive hit for Bottas. Two front-running drivers in the wall in the matter of minutes. He drifted away and over-corrected it in old-school style.

  10. Bottas hits the wall!

Disaster for Valtteri Bottas. Twice in 15 minutes a big name smashes into the barriers. This one is Turn Six. He loses it, straight through the gravel, can't stop at all and it is a heavy, heavy impact into the barrier, with the car spinning around.

The front of Bottas' car is an absolute state. That's a huge crash.

    But not for long!

  12. Post update

Max Verstappen is absolutely fine, walking back to the paddock. But, judging by his body language, is absolutely furious. Probably best to let him cool down a bit first.

    Max Verstappen
  13. 'Big bang against the wall'

    Jolyon Palmer

Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

Verstappen's had a reasonably sized shunt. He's had snap understeer on the way in and he's not caught it. It was towards the exit where the car's got away from him Just past the apex the rear's got away quite quickly. It just went. Big bang against the wall as well.

  14. Red flag

That Verstappen incident brings out the red flag. We had a red flag earlier on in session one and now we have another one.

  15. Verstappen hits the wall

The right rear of Max Verstappen is a mangled mess. He is giving it everything, comes into a corner, spins around and slides backwards into the wall into some pace.

That leads to a very sweary radio message from the Dutchman. Beep, beep, beep is all we get from that one.

  16. Post update

The mechanics have got their work cut out this weekend. Now it is McLaren's turn to get to work on the floor of Carlos Sainz's car.

These yellow sausage kerbs are going to be claiming some victims this weekend. The Mercedes two have a lucky escape.
