  1. Tchau

I'll leave you with one of the greatest radio messages of all time...

Vettel: "There is something loose between my legs, apart from the obvious, something flapping around. It's around my feet, I'd be proud if it was what you think it is but it's not..."

    Engineer: "[laughs] ok copy."

    Tchau.

  2. Lewis Hamilton beaten by Valtteri Bottas in practice

    Andrew Benson

BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer at Interlagos

Valtteri Bottas led Lewis Hamilton to a Mercedes one-two in second practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Bottas was just 0.003secs quicker than Hamilton, and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel was just 0.073secs off the pace in third.

But Ferrari, who still have hopes of wresting the constructors' championship from Mercedes, showed much stronger pace in race trim.

Renault's Nico Hulkenberg had a heavy crash at the tricky Juncao corner.

The tight left-hander is one of the most important bends on the track, as it leads on to the long, uphill pit straight. Hulkenberg ran a little wide and kept his foot down as the car ran off the kerb on to the grass, which pitched him into the wall.

The incident brought out the red flag for six minutes as the wreckage was cleared.

  4. That's it for today

We are back tomorrow at 13:30 GMT for final practice, and our lovely 5 live commentary team will be back from 13:55 GMT.

I have a few things to leave you with...

  5. 'I don't think we are going to fight for pole'

Max Verstappen, says: "Straight away I was happy with the car, it showed in the first practice. It's a shame I missed the beginning in second practice so I had to go quickly through my programme and I had some traffic.

I don't think we are going to fight for pole anyway, I was happy in the long runs and I'm happy we can fix that."

  6. 'Pole is probably a bit of a stretch'

Daniel Ricciardo says: "It was a good afternoon, we made a good step forward from the morning with the set up. It's tricky and demanding on the tyres, we struggled this morning but we had a sweeter afternoon."

"Two in a row would be nice, pole is probably a bit of a stretch in these conditions, this afternoon we had a decent car and we were three tenths of, and the others will turn up tomorrow. All three tyres don’t see that bad to start the race on."

  7. 'We can still launch forward'

Sebastian Vettel, says: "We need to find it still, the car has been ok but not good yet so there's still some work to do.

"Especially come Sunday it's supposed to be hotter so it could be a tricky one for tyres. We are in the ball park but we can still launch forward."

    Sebastian Vettel
  8. Post update

Christian Horner speaking to Sky Sports, says: "There’s an oil tower on the front of the engine and it developed a leak in the first session and they found a crack in it - they think it may have started in Mexico.

I don’t think it had any effect in performance for him in FP1, it compromised track time but it was enough to get some data."

On Ricciardo's car in Mexico: "Basically the marshals are doing their prudent thing, they saw smoke coming out of it, so they were putting out a fire, but then the foam went up the exhaust and ruined the turbo. Renault are saying every time they run a turbo like that they usually stop after 400km."

Can the Bulls fight for pole?: "Unfortunately the altitude isn’t high enough, we’re ok in the first sector and the middle, but the last sector is hard for us. The others were blistering their tyres no more than us, so depending on what the weather is like on Sunday..."

  9. Post update

We have an update from Christian Horner on Verstappen's car...
