'We showed character today'

England

England interim manager Hege Riise to BBC Sport: "Obviously six goals, four players getting their first cap and that we pushed for 90 minutes and wanted more goals. We tried to find the pockets in between, run at them and I think we showed character.

"We probably could've scored more goal but the performance and energy that we put into the game was good, very pleased."

On goalscorer Ellen White: "She's a leader and she always wants to score goals. She's always looking for runs into the box. Three goals and great goals."

'I've been overwhelmed with the messages'

England's Jill Scott to BBC Sport: "Game was really enjoyable. Really happy for Ella Toone and the other girls who made their debuts, so it's been a great day all round.

"Massive thanks to Steph [Houghton] for letting me have the captain's armband today. She's made so much effort to make sure it was a special day for me."

On winning her 150th England cap: "I've been overwhelmed by all the messages, I was just trying to concentrate on the game but now I can finally relax! Everything I do is to just make my family proud but I don't think this has sunk in yet."

Northern Ireland improved after the break but struggled to created much in the final third against an England side who were a cut above.

Judging by the desire to knock the ball about their own area even in the dying moments, the players' confidence and belief in Kenny Shiels' system didn't take too much of a knock despite the scoreline.

Shiels has called for his side to learn from their St. George's Park experience and time will tell when the Euro 2022 play-offs come around at the beginning of April.

Northern Ireland keeper Becky Flaherty pulled off some excellent saves during the game but players like Ellen White are so, so clinical.

FULL-TIME

A very good start for Hege Riise's interim reign. A hat-trick for Ellen White and 150 caps for Jill Scott.

A good experience for Northern Ireland but they just couldn't match England.

It's easy enough for Becky Flaherty as Bethany England's looped header lacks any power.

YELLOW CARD

One minute of stoppage time to go. Jill Scott moves it across to Alex Greenwood but Ebony Salmon can't get the better of the full-back.

Chloe Kelly wins a free-kick on the far side though and there's a yellow card for Rebecca McKenna.

Rachel Furness wins a free-kick on the left when she's tugged by Lucy Bronze. Kenny Shiels shouts 'make it count!'

It's curled in by Toni-Leigh Finnegan but it's overcooked and comfortable for goalkeeper Sandy MacIver.

Building for the future

This is a game not only to build towards the play-offs but also the future. The experienced heads led the way and now it's the turn of the youngsters to see this one out for Northern Ireland.

Rebecca McKenna, Louise McDaniel, Toni-Leigh Finnegan and Kelsie Burrows are all 20 or younger. Sam Kelly is a veteran by comparison at the age of 23.

Playing against a team of England's calibre can only been seen as a good thing for this next generation.

Georgia Stanway tries to poke it through to Ebony Salmon on the edge of the box but she doesn't get enough on it.

England have done so well at getting into good positions and getting numbers into the box. Georgia Stanway's first thoughts have been 'can I go forward and can I create something?'

A good performance from Rachel Daly, who recently had a loan spell at West Ham. Here's her goal earlier which made it 5-0.

A whole host of changes. Nadene Caldwell, Rebecca Holloway and Sarah McFadden are off.

It's Toni Leigh Finnegan, Kelsie Burrows and Samantha Kelly who are on for Northern Ireland.

Ebony Salmon is also on for her England debut! She replaces Rachel Daly.

Chloe Kelly cuts inside off the right this time but drills an effort comfortably wide. She's been energetic since coming on, which is no surprise given her form of late.

Georgia Stanway races through in space down the middle and has time to pick her spot. She ends up hitting it straight at Becky Flaherty and she's disappointed in herself.

Debutant Rebecca Holloway gets some treatment for Northern Ireland but she should be able to carry on.
