  1. Until next time!

    FT: Preston 0-1 Cardiff

That's it from us, on an afternoon where Cardiff City marked Sheyi Ojo's first goal for the Bluebirds with victory over Preston at Deepdale.

For Preston it is a third consecutive 1-0 defeat at home in the Championship, as Alex Neil's side struggle to find their form from last season.

It was far from a thriller, but the Bluebirds continue their impressive away form to move up to 12th in the Championship while Preston drop a place to 18th.

The fixtures come thick and fast for both clubs over the next few weeks, and both are in action once again on Wednesday.

Thanks for joining us, until next time!

  2. Game lacked quality in final third - Neil

    FT: Preston 0-1 Cardiff

Preston manager Alex Neil told Sky Sports: "I always thought it would be a 1-0 game, we didn't want to dominate possession.

"If you play poorly and you lose it's easier to take but today we found ourselves on the wrong end of the scoreline.

"I don't think we created enough opportunities but I didn't think Cardiff did either, it was a game that lacked quality in the final third.

"That's three 1-0 losses we've had now, we've not been outplayed but they have taken opportunities when we have not.

"We need to come up with alternatives to help us break the deadlock."

  3. Cardiff continue impressive away form

    FT: Preston 0-1 Cardiff

Cardiff City's impressive away form continued as Sheyi Ojo's first Bluebirds goal secured victory at Preston North End.

On-loan Liverpool winger Ojo rounded off a swift counter-attack with an emphatic finish to light up what was a largely forgettable contest.

Ojo's fierce strike, coupled with a solid defensive display, means Cardiff have won two of their three away league games this season.

  4. Away form needed at home - Harris

    FT: Preston 0-1 Cardiff

Cardiff City manager Neil Harris told Sky Sports: "When you play Preston you have to compete with them, we had to be solid and reliable.

"Kieffer Moore had great awareness to find the pass to Sheyi Ojo for the goal, Smithies made a couple saves at the end and the clean sheet is massive for us.

"We've brought down the average age of the squad and we have some real leaders in there, to keep a clean sheet today speaks volume.

"We need to build on this now and take our away form back to the Cardiff City Stadium."

  5. The whole team defended well - Morrison

    FT: Preston 0-1 Cardiff

Cardiff City captain Sean Morrison told Sky Sports: "It was a great win, it's a tough place to come whether there are fans or not but we defended the box well.

"We still have a lot of work to do going forward and in our build up play but I'm delighted with the clean sheet.

"They put a lot of crosses in the box but we defended really well, not just the back four but the whole team.

"This win puts us in good stead, it's exciting and I like playing three games a week, you don't have time to think about results you just have to get on with games."

  6. Bluebirds moving up the table

    FT: Preston 0-1 Cardiff

Early days yet but Cardiff are heading in the right direction for that top-six finish in the Championship after today's win at Deepdale.

Last season's play-off semi-finalists are up six places to 12th, while Preston drop one down to 18th.

  7. 'Cardiff will be in top six'

    FT Preston 0-1 Cardiff

    Kevin Ratcliffe

Former Wales captain on BBC Radio Wales

There was a good shape to Cardiff, good quality in the side.

I think they'll be in the top six by Christmas.

  8. FULL-TIME - Preston 0-1 Cardiff

Cardiff are the away-day specialists this season.

They've yet to concede in their three games on the road, and this is their second win.

This was not a classic encounter but Sheyi Ojo's winning goal was a rare moment of quality.

As for Preston, they're still without a home win - or a home goal - in the Championship this season.

  9. Post update

    Preston 0-1 Cardiff

Joe Rafferty launches a long ball into the Cardiff penalty area and the visitors' hearts are in their mouths momentarily as goalkeeper Alex Smithies misses his punch.

But he gathers at the second attempt and smiles with relief.

Just seconds left for Cardiff to hold out.

  10. Post update

    Preston 0-1 Cardiff

Cardiff try to kill the game off on the break but Kieffer Moore's pass to Harry Wilson is cut out just in time for Preston.

  11. Post update

    Preston 0-1 Cardiff

Sean Morrison really is having a great game for Cardiff.

Preston launch a long ball forward and the Bluebirds captian calmly flicks it back to his goalkeeper Alex Smithies.

  12. Post update

    Preston 0-1 Cardiff

There will be four minutes of added time.

Sean Morrison earns a free-kick for Cardiff just outside his own penalty area as Curtis Nelson clears.

  13. Close!

    Preston 0-1 Cardiff

    Chance for Preston!

Ben Davies crosses well from the left for Jayden Stockley, who heads straight at Alex Smithies inside the penalty area.

No wonder the Preston forward looks disappointed with himself.

  14. Post update

    Preston 0-1 Cardiff

Ben Pearson appears to have injured himself stretching for the ball.

It looked like he had pulled his hamstring at first but he's back on his feet and it doesn't seem that serious after all.

Just as well - Preston have already used all three of their substitutions.

  15. Post update

    Preston 0-1 Cardiff

    Kevin Ratcliffe

Former Wales captain on BBC Radio Wales

I've not seen the ball in the air so much in a Championship game since Neil Warnock was in charge of Cardiff.

  16. Post update

    Preston 0-1 Cardiff

Jayden Stockley has a half-chance to equalise for Preston but, under pressure from Sol Bamba, he can't connect with a diving header and it goes out for a goal kick.

  17. Post update

    Preston 0-1 Cardiff

Sol Bamba makes his first contribution, a crunching sliding tackle on Emil Riis for a Preston corner.

That's cleared for a second corner from Joe Rafferty and that too is dealt with by the Cardiff defence.

    Preston 0-1 Cardiff

Cardiff also make their third and final change as Wales midfielder Will Vaulks replaces goal scorer Sheyi Ojo.

The Bluebirds look like they're getting ready to hold tight and try and protect their lead.

    Preston 0-1 Cardiff

Preston make their final change as Jayden Stockley comes on for Ryan Ledson.

Cardiff, meanwhile, lose a second full-back to injury, with Jordi Osei-Tutu taken off and replaced by Sol Bamba.

Bamba is a centre-back so Curtis Nelson switches to right-back.

    Osei-Tutu injured
  20. Post update

    Preston 0-1 Cardiff

Scott Sinclair hasn't had much of a look-in today and he tries his luck with a well-struck shot from 20 or so yards - but it's straight at Alex Smithies.
