  3. Man Utd reach Europa League quarter-finals - read the report

Man Utd 2-1 LASK (7-1 on aggregate)

    Simon Stone

    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Manchester United came from behind to beat Austrian side LASK at Old Trafford, advancing to the quarter-finals of the Europa League 7-1 on aggregate.

Anthony Martial came off the bench to score the winner four minutes from time, collecting Juan Mata's precise through ball before finishing off his 23rd goal of the season from 10 yards.

Earlier, Mata also provided the assist for Jesse Lingard to score for the second consecutive game.

It was tough luck on the Austrians, who were the better side in the first half, despite trailing 5-0 from their home game in March. When skipper Philipp Wiesinger curled an excellent shot into the top corner after 55 minutes, it looked like they were heading for a famous victory.

But Lingard replied two minutes later and Solskjaer could even give 18-year-old defender Teden Mengi his debut as the clock ticked down to the final whistle.

Having already secured a place in next season's Champions League, United will now play Danish side FC Copenhagen in Cologne in the quarter-finals of the 'Final 8' tournament on 10 August.

  4. 'We wish Sanchez all the best'

Man Utd 2-1 LASK (7-1 on aggregate)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaking to BT Sport: "We learned the players need to play to keep that sharpness. Some of these lads haven't played for a while and it showed. We won, we gave a debut to a young lad, it's been a good night."

On debutant Teden Mengi: "He is a leader, a centre-back, someone we believe in, he's strong, quick, good on the ball and I think we've got a decent player there."

On the availability of Victor Lindelof for the quarter-final: "Victor should be OK to travel. It's great to get Eric [Bailly] through a game again, he's had his ups and downs with injuries."

On the performance: "It is that sharpness you lack when you don't play regularly, some haven't played since lockdown, for me it was a good exercise, it's job done, minutes under the belt and on to Copenhagen."

On the departure of Alexis Sanchez, with Inter Milan set to confirm a deal tomorrow: "Yeah I believe so and I can confirm that. Alexis has had a good time over there, he's a good player and we wish him all the best."

  5. Stat attack

    • Manchester United remain unbeaten in 10 meetings with Austrian opponents in European competition.
    • United have netted 23 goals in the Europa League, at least four more than any other side in the competition.
    • United have used 38 players in the Europa League this season – the most players a team has used in a single campaign in Uefa Cup/Europa League history.
    • Anthony Martial is United’s top scorer in all competitions with 23 goals. The Frenchman had scored 23 goals in his last two campaigns combined.
    • Jesse Lingard has scored in back-to-back matches for United for the first time since December 2018.
    • Philipp Wiesinger’s opener for LASK was the first goal United have conceded at home in the Europa League this season.
  6. Post update

Man Utd 2-1 LASK (7-1 on aggregate)

    Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard speaking to BT Sport: "Of course, you take confidence from goals. I wanted to add goals this season and hopefully now I can carry on throughout the rest of this competition."

On being unhappy to be substituted: "I was enjoying the game and I enjoy football matches. I felt like I could score more today but obviosuly it's the manager's decision and I stand by that."

On a tough season personally: "When you're not in the right mental state Football takes your mind away from everything. I love playing football and playing for Manchester United."

  7. The action's not over

    Man Utd 2-1 LASK

    Simon Stone

    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

The game may be over but the action isn't.

Some of Manchester United's players are having quite a thorough training session.

Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are among the players out there.

  8. Tonight's results

    Europa League last-16 second legs

    • Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 Wolfsburg (5-1 on aggregate)
    • FC Copenhagen 3-0 Istanbul Basaksehir (3-1 on aggregate)
    • Manchester United 2-1 LASK (7-1 on aggregate)

    Europa League last-16 one-off tie

    • Inter Milan 2-0 Getafe
  9. Lingard's future?

Man Utd 2-1 LASK (7-1 on aggregate)

Paul Scholes on BT Sport putting the boot into Jesse Lingard.

"Recently, he's not been good enough," says Scholes. "To bring him off after an hour when he definitely won't start on Monday that was a little sign, and Fred as well, that he [Ole Gunnar Solskjaer] might be getting rid of them.

"I know what he's capable of, but at United he's just become a squad player. Unless there are a lot of injuries I don't see Jesse getting a run of games.

"I like Jesse, but I can't seeing him getting a run of games."

  10. Where next?

Man Utd 2-1 LASK (7-1 on aggregate)

Manchester United now go into the eight-team mini-tournament in Germany to finish the Europa League.

United face FC Copenhagen in Cologne on Monday after the Danes overturned a 1-0 first leg deficit to beat Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir 3-0 and clinch a 3-1 aggregate victory.

FC Copenhagen in the quarter-finals of a European competition. United will be absolutely loving that draw.

Man Utd 2-1 LASK (7-1 on aggregate)

There was never any way Manchester United were going to be exiting the tournament tonight after thrashing LASK 5-0 in their first leg.

And they get another win as goals from Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial see them come from behind after a brilliant effort from Philipp Wiesinger had put the Austrians ahead in the second leg.

    Inter Milan 2-0 Getafe

Goals from former Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku and ex-Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen send Antonio Conte's Inter Milan into the Europa League quarter-finals.

  13. Post update

Man Utd 2-1 LASK (7-1 on aggregate)

A good reaction save from Sergio Romero to block a close-range flick from Marko Raguz.

  14. GOAL - Man Utd 2-1 LASK (7-1 on aggregate)

    Anthony Martial (Man Utd)

He's only been on for four minutes and now he's on the scoresheet. Juan Mata gets a pass right this time, Anthony Martial turns on the afterburners to sprint through a space in the middle of the LASK defence.

Martial tries to do the keeper with the eyes and strikes goalwards, the ball hits the leg of Alexander Schlager but the ball just has enough legs to creep over the line and United, after being a goal down, are ahead 2-1.

  15. Post update

Man Utd 1-1 LASK (6-1 on aggregate)

It's been a decent cameo from Andreas Pereira. A reverse-pass sees Juan Mata behind the defence and he opts for a pullback but once again can't find a team-mate.

Man Utd 1-1 LASK (6-1 on aggregate)

A couple more changes for United. One player we know all about as Anthony Martial is coming on, while it is a debut for 18-year-old defender Teden Mengi, who has represented England at Under-17 level.

Daniel James is off, as is Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

Nokeeroe: Chong, Pereira and Pogba on for Williams, goal scorer Lingard & Fred. Ole’s going in for the kill.

  18. GOAL - Inter Milan 2-0 Getafe

    Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen has only been on the pitch for one minute but he looks to have sent Inter Milan into the Europa League quarter-finals.

Djene Dakonam makes a mess of a clearance and sends the ball straight into the path of Eriksen who slots home from close range.

    That could be that!

Alex: Why do people think Pogba has improved? He's still a complete waste of space and money. Every pass he attempts is over hit. He's top of my list to sell this summer.

Matt C: Odd Utd performance tonight - no real appetite for a game. Odd decision to take Lingard off too - he's had a tough time this season and needs match time to regain his confidence - goals do that, why take him off??

  20. Post update

Man Utd 1-1 LASK (6-1 on aggregate)

A couple of the subs link up as Andreas Pereira and Tahith Chong, who is still managing to get forward despite replacing left-back Brandon Williams, cause problems.

Daniel James is then involved and he slides it wide to Juan Mata but the ball back in from the Spanish midfielder is a disappointing one as it only finds a white shirt, not red, and the chance is wasted.
