It's split opinion a bit this one!
Kimberly-Ann Athayde: Iconic YES
WestwoodTableSoccer: Shirt on Brazil is boring though isn't it? It's the romance of the team and the colours at the time were considered special and they're iconic but it's a really simple kit and imo not deserving of the title.
FlashScore.com: Beautiful in its simplicity and extraordinary in what the shirt represents. Released now, it still has retro appeal and is instantly recognisable.

There could be only one winner it seems.
With 14% of the overall vote, you chose Brazil's 1970 home kit as your most iconic.
Very similar to most other Brazil kits, but this one is a retro classic. Worn by one of the the greatest, if not the greatest international team we've ever seen.
The kit was worn by the legendary 1970 World Cup-winning side and was the last shirt Pele sported before retiring from international duty.

Ray: So not only does my favourite England kit miss out on top 10 but beaten by the Germans (without crying on penalties obvs), not sure about the no1 though (yet to be announced but we know what it is), contrived but I'll say it anyway thought they were over-rated.
Anon:We all know what's going to win. And it's almost impossible to argue with when the criteria is 'most iconic', not 'coolest' or 'my favourite'. That team, that player, that goal, that kit. The epitome of The Beautiful Game.

Anon: Holland '88 shirt still has the ability to conjure many a name to have adorned it, for most footy fans of the age.
Gullit, Van Basten, Rijkaard, Koeman, Wouters, Mühren, van Tiegelen....nuff said. Iconic at its best

Before we get onto the winner we need to talk about the Peru 1978 shirt before some of you fall out with me...
Lucio in Newbury: Best kit has to be Peru 1978..Once voted most iconic kit ever.
George in Isle of Wight: The 1978 Peru shirt. That team oozed class and famously beat the Scots looking fab. That red stripe is iconic.
Alan: The best kit of all time, surely. Finding it for sale in an
Ormskirk sports shop was one of the high points of my childhood and while it’s
too small for me now, my son, Laurie, is happy on the rare occasions I allow
him to wear it.
Plenty of dad points right there!

2. Netherlands 1988
What a shirt.
One of the most sought-after shirts of all time. It's safe to say the Netherlands looked the part as they won the European Championship for the first time.
It's pretty rare to get your hands on an original these days.

Ray: Very disappointed the England World Cup 90 shirt didn't make the top 10, it was the first year I got into football and watching the matches against Cameroon and Germany brought it back to me.
Carl & Rhys: Your comment about football shirts at Glastonbury has got us all teary eyed, Ellie! There's nothing quite like stumbling across someone in a 1994 Swansea City away shirt at 3am in a muddy field. Summer 2021 can't come soon enough!

Steve from Gateshead: You have missed out the classic Holland and West Germany kits from the 1974 World Cup....great iconic strips... Argentina 1978.....But the best of all has to be Brazil 1970.....for an older guy like myself anyway...great fun this. Thank you.
3. West Germany 1990
Just missing out on the top two by 1% of the overall vote! So close, yet so far.
The iconic shirt worn by the Germans as they beat Argentina to win the 1990 World Cup has to be one of the best ever.
The slick design has become a retro classic and is still as popular today as it was 30 years ago.

Chris Treacy:Of that lot... Ajax. Favourite ever was Birmingham City 3rd kit in the early 70s, yellow red and black solid blocks, fabulous.
Matthew Ashton: Germany away 2010-11 - just smart, clean and classic
Japan home 2019-20 - camo is always cool. Nigeria 2018 - is just sick!
