  3. United's day comes...

FT AET: Dundee Utd 3-4 Motherwell

While 1991 was not to be the year for Dundee United, the Arabs have gone on to sample Scottish Cup success. They lifted the famous trophy for the first time three years later, before doing so again in 2010.

Motherwell's wait to emulate the class of 91 goes on having lost in the final twice since, both times to Celtic...

  4. Steelmen

FT AET: Dundee Utd 3-4 Motherwell

The victory was not only a triumph for a football team, but it was a moment of light for a town riddled with uncertainty and fear.

So many in the local area relied on work from the Ravenscraig Steelworks - hence the nickname The Steelmen for their football team - with its future in doubt around the time of Motherwell's cup victory. It provided a beacon of hope not just then, but throughout the months and years that followed, with the plant closing the following year.

"[In the bus parade] the bus went round the corner to where the steelworks were," said Stevie Kirk.

"You have houses there attached to the Steelworks. To realise the people there are not going to have a job shortly, I took my hat off to them. They deserve so many plaudits for the support they gave that team."

  5. Super sub

FT AET: Dundee Utd 3-4 Motherwell

What a day for Stevie Kirk. The super sub completed an incredible feat as he strained his neck muscles to power home the winner at Hampden. Against Aberdeen, Falkirk, Morton, Celtic and now Dundee United, the forward climbed off the bench to score in every round.

Speaking in a BBC Alba documentary about that famous win, Kirk recalled of his goal: "I was just in the right place, at the right time. That was it. It was like time was counting down, counting down.

"I remember walking around the pitch after the game and there were still thousands of Dundee United fans there. I think everyone had realised they had just witnessed a seven-goal thriller. You probably won't see something like that again."

  6. Super Ally

FT AET: Dundee Utd 3-4 Motherwell

Ally Maxwell very nearly missed that bus parade the following day. After the game he was taken to hospital, where it was discovered he'd broken ribs and a ruptured spleen...
