  1. Good night

And that concludes another truly thrilling night in the Champions League. Liverpool are out - Atletico Madrid, PSG, Atalanta and RB Leipzig are into the last eight.

    Check out the match reports:

  2. 'It's easy to be a critic'

    Paris St-Germain 2-0 Borussia Dortmund (Agg 3-2)

    Thomas Tuchek

Paris St-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel: "We've been winning for the last 28 games. This team only lost that one game at Dortmund, with a one-goal difference, and people were talking as if we were fourth in Ligue 1 and knocked out of the cups.

"Everyone wants to be a critic – it’s easy."

  3. Defeat for the Lionesses

    England 0-1 Spain

  4. 'The 90 minutes were exceptional'

Liverpool 2-3 Atletico Madrid (Agg 2-4)

    Georginio Wijnaldum

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to BT Sport: "I’m searching for the right words. Our main mistake was to not score the second goal five minutes earlier. We scored it in extra time and not in the 90 minutes.

"The 90 minutes were exceptional, the boys played a wonderful game. You saw all the goals we conceded you should not concede them. We lose in a specific way, it’s always different but it’s difficult to explain those goals to be honest.

"We will come again and go again but now we are out."

  5. 'They could play proper football'

Liverpool 2-3 Atletico Madrid (Agg 2-4)

    Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to BT Sport: "For the score to go 2-1 was not cool, it was a blow but it's not a big problem. The second goal was a bigger problem.

"After the second goal the legs were a bit tired. Everything that looked really natural in the first 90 minutes became a bit stiff. The crosses did not have the same quality We wanted the first time crosses like for the first goal, which was brilliant and the boys forget to do that.

"I am completely happy with the performance. It’s so difficult to play a side like this.

"I don’t understand with the quality they have the football they play. They could play proper football but they stand deep and have counter attacks.

"We accept it of course but it doesn’t feel right tonight. I realise I am a really bad loser, especially when the boys put such an effort in against world class players on the other side who defend with two rows of four.

"We know in the last two years we had some lucky moments in the Champions League, you have to, to reach two finals, but today it was everything was against us in the decisive moments."

  6. 'We created so many chances'

Liverpool 2-3 Atletico Madrid (Agg 2-4)

    Roberto Firmino

More from Jordan Henderson: "Jan Oblak had a great game, and we did create so many chances - we just couldn't find the net, we couldn't find that third goal to kill the game off. We left everything on the field and that's what is important.

"It's hard to play against a team that defends very well and that is how they play. But we created a lot of chances, its not like we didn't create them. Overall we're so disappointed and for the rest of today and tomorrow it won't feel nice, but we have to use it to help us finish the season strong.

"Our focus is now on the derby, that's up next. It's a big game, and we'll just take it game by game to ensure we can finish this season strongly."

  7. Post update

Jurgen Klopp also criticises the style of play from Atletico Madrid saying 'they should be able to play proper football.'

  8. 'We deserved to go through'

Liverpool 2-3 Atletico Madrid (Agg 2-4)

    Jordan Henderson

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson on BT Sport:

"Obviously we were really disappointed with that result. I thought overall our performance was good, our intensity was good as we spoke about before the game. We put everything into that game so we are bitterly disappointed especially with the goals we conceded. We were largely pleased with our performance tonight but those goals were disappointing.

"We've experienced situations like this over the last few years and we know how important it is to stay focused right until the end, that lapse in concentration can really cost you. We deserved to go through based on the whole performance, so we are obviously very disappointed.

"All we can focus on is our performance level, and to have conceded those goals isn't like us. We're disappointed but we'll take it on the chin."

  9. Post update

Jurgen Klopp says it is difficult to explain the goals Liverpool have conceded tonight.

  10. Post update

Nathan: I'm sure if you'd offered Liverpool fans the league and nothing else before the season started they'd have bitten your hand off!

Antony: Atletico and Simeone did a job on Liverpool. Never let the game get away from them and then pounced.

  12. 'We don't have limits on how much we can suffer'

Liverpool 2-3 Atletico Madrid (Agg 2-4)

    Marcos Llorente

Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente: "We don’t have any limits to how much we can go through and suffer.

"We defended with our lives and when we all pull in the same direction, these things can happen".

  13. Post update

    You can believe that.

  14. 'Simeone is like that in training'

Liverpool 2-3 Atletico Madrid (Agg 2-4)

    Diego Simeone

Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier speaking on BT Sport:

"We knew it was going to be very difficult but we needed to stay defensively strong and try and frustrate Liverpool as much as we could. We knew that we'd get our chances if we beat the press of Firmino, Salah and Mane.

"Liverpool are very strong at home, I've played them so many times in the Premier League (to know that) but we knew we'd get our chances and it was about being clinical in those moments and we were.

"The way we play is the way we train. He's [Diego Simeone] like this on the touchline in training, it's a joy to learn from him every day and work with him. I knew I needed a change and when a club like Atletico Madrid come in for you, you can't say no. I'm loving my time here and I'm learning new things every day.

"You've seen how defensively strong Atletico have been over the years and we showed that again tonight. The substitutes that came on made a big impact and were so important.

"There are some fantastic teams still in the competition. We will focus on ourselves and who knows what will happen at the end of the season."

  15. Post update

Liverpool 2-3 Atletico Madrid (Agg 2-4)

Liverpool have fallen at the last 16 stage of the Champions League for the first time since 2006 (v Benfica), also as the reigning champions after lifting the trophy in 2005 at this season’s final destination - Istanbul.

  16. An unlikely hero!

Incredibly, Marcos Llorente had only scored three career goals before tonight.

He got two in extra time!

Vipul: The mid-season break does not seem to have been of much benefit to Liverpool.

Phil: Don't care what anyone says but at 2-1 tonight and Allison in goal we probably don't lose that game. Very disappointed to go out like that.

Osama: From possible quadruple to one trophy for Liverpool. Yes they have been magnificent in the league and will win the Premier League.

  18. 'This is the beginning'

    Paris St-Germain 2-0 Borussia Dortmund (Agg 3-2)

    Kehrer

Thilo Kehrer, PSG defender: "It was an exciting match right until the end. We got the result we needed and are very happy about that.

"The people in this city, the fans, the staff have been waiting a long time for this success in the Champions League. It's not the end for us– it's a beginning."

  19. 'Liverpool need more depth'

Liverpool 2-3 Atletico Madrid (Agg 2-4)

    Pat Nevin

Former Chelsea and Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Liverpool looked comfortable and in control, until they conceded a goal. They didn't have any volume to turn it up after that. You expect a big drive when you only have 15 minutes to get through in the Champions League, but there was nothing. There was no energy.

If you want to stay as European Champions, you have to build as you're on your way up. They haven't done that, they've left it too long and they desperately need some more depth in their squad.

  20. Atletico fans keep the party going

Liverpool 2-3 Atletico Madrid (Agg 2-4)

    Chris Bevan

    BBC Sport at Anfield

The Atletico fans have been celebrating for a while now, long before the final whistle went. They don't look like they plan on stopping their party any time soon.
