Live Reporting

By Alex Winter

All times stated are UK

  1. Goodnight

That's all for your Football League tonight.

But the midweek action continues tomorrow and we'll be back for two more games.

Charlton host Fulham and Reading go to Nottingham Forest - with the Cottagers and Forest both with the opportunity to close the gap on the top two.

    See you then.

  2. Post update

FT: Middlesbrough 1-1 Birmingham, Barnsley 0-3 Preston

Well there was only one place to be tonight for entertainment in the Championship.

End to end stuff deep into the second half - I hope no Blues fans left early for the long trip home!

Far more sedate affair at Oakwell where Preston's recent progress continued with a fine win that lifts them to sixth.

Barnsley's troubles continue and they lie four points from safety and have now played a game more than Stoke in 21st.

  3. Pompey progress in EFL Trophy

    Portsmouth celebrate

Holders Portsmouth are into the semi-finals of this season's EFL Trophy after a 2-1 win over Scunthorpe at Fratton Park.

They will be joined by competition debutants Salford, who came from behind to beat Accrington, and Exeter, who eased past Stevenage 3-0.

Newport and Leicester Under-21s must try again after their game was postponed because of a frozen pitch.

  4. League Two wrap-up

Three draws in League Two this evening - but that doesn't really tell the story.

Crewe needed a 95th-minute equaliser to take a point from their Cheshire derby at Macclesfield, while a late Josh Wright penalty earned Leyton Orient a draw with Northampton.

Both sides ended with 10 men after a scuffle between both sets of players after the O's equaliser.

Colchester's game with Bradford finished goalless - meaning League Two's top scorer Eoin Doyle has now gone three games without a goal since the Bantams recalled him from his loan at Swindon.

  5. FULL-TIME

    Middlesbrough 1-1 Birmingham

Ashley Fletcher's equaliser nine minutes from time earns Boro a point.

Blues thought they were heading above their opponents with Lukas Jutkiewicz's first-half goal.

And they thought the same man had won it late on.

Sure we'll hear more about that.

  6. FULL-TIME

    Peterborough 4-0 Wycombe

A first win in eight for Peterborough.

Two goals from Ivan Toney, plus strikes from Siriki Dembele and Jack Taylor are more than enough for Posh to ease past a Wycombe side that played for most of the game with 10 men.

  7. FULL-TIME

    Barnsley 0-3 Preston

Nothing to report from the second half.

Points were wrapped up with those three first half goals, including a brace from Tom Barkhuizen.

North End back into the top six. Barnsley stay in the relegation zone.

  8. Post update

    League Two latest

    Heartbreak for Macclesfield!

The Silkmen can't clear a corner and Callum Ainley scrambles it home from close range deep into stoppage time.

  9. Post update

    Middlesbrough 0-1 Birmingham

It was Marcus Tavernier who was hit - accidentally - in the face by a shoulder and looked knocked out.

In the mele, members of both backroom staffs are sent off.

And then a chance for the Blues!

A huge long throw causes carnage and a shot from close range is fired over the bar.

Simon Atkins: I'm blaming that on you!

    Sorry!

  11. RED CARD

    Leyton Orient 1-1 Northampton

That Leyton Orient equaliser wasn't the only drama at Brisbane Road!

Both sets of players got into scuffle for the ball after the penalty and Northampton's Scott Wharton and Leyton Orient's James Dayton have been sent-off!

  12. DISALLOWED GOAL

    Middlesbrough 1-1 Birmingham

    High drama!

Blues think they've scored but just as the cross for the goal is sent in, the referee blows the whistle!

He's halted play because a Boro player was down up the other end.

Everyone going wild but the goal from Lukas Jutkiewicz will not stand.

  13. Post update

    League Two latest

Late drama in east London in League Two where Leyton Orient have drawn level.

Northampton's Scott Wharton is adjudged to have handled in the box competing for a cross and Josh Wright nets from the spot.

Elsewhere, Macclesfield are holding on against Crewe and Colchester and Bradford remains goalless.

  14. GOAL: Middlesbrough 1-1 Birmingham

    Ashley Fletcher (81 mins)

    Ashley Fletcher celebrates

Ball from the right that loops over everyone, picked up by Marvin Johnson on the left hand side of the area.

He drives a cross towards goal and a superb flick from Ashley Fletcher finds the net.

Blues appeared to be seeing the game out but a lovely piece of skills brings Boro level.

  15. GOAL: Peterborough 4-0 Wycombe

    Ivan Toney (73 mins)

Is this Peterborough scoring themselves back into form into form?

Wycombe keeper Ryan Allsop can't hold Reece Brown's shot and Ivan Toney smashes in the rebound.

  16. Post update

    Barnsley 0-3 Preston

North End closing this one down like a good Jose Mourinho side.

    Very quiet second half.

They're heading back into the play-off places.

  17. Get Involved

    #bbcefl

Simon Atkins: Re. 21:11 - Please don't say things like that, that's the sort of thing commentators say just before we concede...

That's what James, the Barnsley fan, was saying earlier...

  18. Post update

    Middlesbrough 0-1 Birmingham

But now Blues go close to maybe sealing the points.

Gary Gardner with a forward surge and a good strike from 20 yards out.

It's well saved by Aynsley Pears in the Boro goal.

  19. Post update

    Middlesbrough 0-1 Birmingham

And that final Boro sub, Rudy Gestede, almost making an immediate impact.

Meets a corner but heads over the bar.

  20. Post update

    EFL Trophy latest

    Cameron McGeehan celebrates

Is Portsmouth's grip on the trophy loosening?

Er, no. Their response to Scunthorpe's equaliser was pretty swift, with Cameron McGeehan putting Kenny Jackett's men back in front. The Iron were only level for four minutes.
