  1. Post update

And that's it from us, on the day Watford ended Liverpool's 18-game winning run in the Premier League and boosted their own hopes of survival with a superb victory.

Two goals from Ismaila Sarr and a cracker from captain Troy Deeney did the job - you can read all about what it means for both teams in Gary Rose's match report here.

Don't forget you can watch all of today's goals on Match of the Day at 22:25 GMT tonight.

    Until tomorrow...

  2. 'Deulofeu injury a real concern'

    FT: Watford 3-0 Liverpool

More from NIgel Pearson: "I want the players to enjoy this and I want it to galvanise our season. We've got to do it ourselves. We're capable of doing it ourselves but what we can't do is have a performance as good as this and then not try to reproduce it.

"We will work really hard again this week to get it right for our next game. You've got to keep your nerve in these situations.

"Every single one of them out there today delivered what they were picked to deliver - and that's what really pleases me, more than anything else."

On Gerard Deulofeu's injury: "It's upsetting for the players. I went into the medical room to see him at half-time and he's clearly distressed. We don't know the extent of it at the minute. Certainly its a real concern for us and for him."

  3. 'That performance surpassed everything we've delivered so far'

    FT: Watford 3-0 Liverpool

Watford manager Nigel Pearson: "We've found it quite difficult in recent weeks to turn performances into wins. I think that performance surpassed everything else we've delivered so far. You've got to earn the right to beat a side as good as Liverpool.

"The players were fantastic today in terms of cohesion on the pitch - we showed a lot of discipline when we didn't have the ball, but I also felt we caused them problems throughout the game by being committed when we had it.

"Since I've been here, what I've seen in terms of how the players are capable of playing, really the situation we find ourselves in is a bit perplexing. We've got a pretty talented group of players, and on top of that they're a really good group of people.

"I think the players will hopefully get some confidence from today. I hope it can help kick-start our season again, but when you're in the relegation battle, I think it's important to keep a level of calmness."

Noel Fitzpatrick: Pearson is some manager....relegation race is going to be exciting.

Bob Moss: Liverpool, greatest premier league team ever, hmmmm. Me thinks not. Would be fun if they lose the next game.

Abid: Let's be honest, this Liverpool team is still going to go down as one of the greatest PL teams ever. The main reason everyone is so happy about this loss is because we can't bear Liverpool fans talking about going unbeaten for the rest of our lives.

  5. Post update

    FT: Watford 3-0 Liverpool

This is what it means for Watford - out of the bottom three on goal difference.

It's a bad weekend so far for Aston Villa - who are in the Carabao Cup final tomorrow - after wins for Norwich on Friday night and Watford and West Ham today, while Bournemouth got a point against Chelsea.

Tough to call who's going down...

    Bottom six
  6. 'We want to strike back straight away'

    FT: Watford 3-0 Liverpool

More from Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk: "I think first of all credit to Watford - the chances they created they stick to their plan they scored three goals we didn’t create too many opportunities and we can’t take the credit away from Watford. We need to improve, it’s a tough one to take.

"If you conceded three goals we have to improve as a team and we will.

"Losing hurts, the records are only for the media we didn’t mention it once, we keep going. We want to win the next game in the FA Cup and then in the league against Bournemouth - I mean, that’s the only way forward.

"The whole season we haven’t lost a game like this. They did very, very well and we should have done better - we want to strike back straight away."

  7. 'Sarr is an unbelievable talent'

    FT: Watford 3-0 Liverpool

More from Troy Deeney: "Ismaila Sarr is an unbelievable player, unbelievable talent. He still has a lot to learn, and will continue to learn. But I think it's a full team performance and a special mention has to go to Gerard Deulofeu as well, it looks like it's going to be a bad one.

"It's about time Ben Foster has a week off! He's been keeping us in it for a lot of games this season. He's getting better like a fine wine.

"We have to take it for what it is, it's three points and we go again. This one we'll enjoy for a day or two, then back on the pitch to get ready for a tough game against Crystal Palace.

"I'm not looking at anybody else, I'm looking at what we're doing. All we can do is control our own destiny and thankfully we're in a position to do that. We knew we had to try and get a result. This is massive for us."

  8. 'If you lose, try to do it in the right manner'

    FT: Watford 3-0 Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "They did exactly what they wanted to do, we did not. That's how football works.

"The first half was a tough one, a lot of second balls, running here and there, we had the ball a lot but we didn't come in the right positions to cross, the right positions to finish, against a really good, organised side, with a top set-up for this game.

"You have to accept it, it's not so easy, but it's the proof we were not good enough tonight. It's always very difficult. We have to accept if after. In the game you have to fight. We were 3-0 down but we still tried, there were no silly situations where somebody got frustrated and tried to kick someone.

"If you win good, if you lose, try to do it in the right manner and do it like a man."

  9. 'An important win, but just one win'

    FT: Watford 3-0 Liverpool

Watford boss Nigel Pearson: "It's such an important win for us. But it is one win. Our season has been tough so far, with losing last week and not playing well, we were keen to get a response.

"They are such an outstanding side, we had to get our performance right - as close to max as possible - and I thought we thoroughly deserved the win. We threatened with the ball and defended with discipline, energy and commitment. That's been the message from day one.

"It's in our own hands, and we have to deliver that performance week in, week out."

  10. 'Today was a great day for us'

    FT: Watford 3-0 Liverpool

Watford captain Troy Deeney: "Our best performance by a country mile. We've felt unlucky at times in the past few weeks. No-one give us a prayer or a hope for this one.

"Every single man was quality today. They're a proper outfit and they're going to go on to win not only the league but probably a lot more trophies - but we want to keep it about us not about Liverpool.

"We're realists, we know we're not technically as good as them. We know what position we're in and we're fighting for everything. We're just doing what we have to do, day in, day out. Results haven't gone for us but thankfully today was a great day for us."

  11. 'We don't have to panic'

    FT: Watford 3-0 Liverpool

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, talking to Match of the Day: "Credit to Watford, they played well, a lot of fight, very disciplined and scored three goals - that's the reality, we couldn't find a way through. It was difficult and we have to do better.

"Two throw-ins... we have to look at it, there is no reason for panic. We don't want to concede, we look at it but we don't have to panic.

"The record and the talk of the records is all media, we just try to win every game ahead of us.

"We will focus on the next game, the cup game, and we try to win there. We have to stay humble and work harder next game."

  12. Post update

    FT: Watford 3-0 Liverpool

Watford boss Nigel Pearson says Gerard Deulofeu has a "bad knee injury" and the club will know more about it in the next 48 hours.

The winger was taken off on a stretcher after twisting awkwardly in the first half.

  13. Post update

    FT: Watford 3-0 Liverpool

Watford captain Troy Deeney says goalkeeper Ben Foster is getting better "like a fine wine".

  14. Post update

    FT: Watford 3-0 Liverpool

So Liverpool remain just the 22 points clear, and Manchester City have a game in hand...

  15. 'That was great!'

    FT: Watford 3-0 Liverpool

More from Watford keeper Ben Foster: "Liverpool are one of the best teams you're likely to see, but it's all about us for us tonight, we needed the three points.

"There's six or seven teams down where we are and if you can put a run of a few games together where you win three or four, you create a gap between you and the rest. We did it when the manager first came in, and now we need to do a similar thing.

"It's nice but there's a load more to go."

  16. 'Not hard is it, football?!'

    FT: Watford 3-0 Liverpool

Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster, speaking to Sky Sports: "Just do that every week! It's easy if you do it like that - we had a game plan and stuck to it really well. Their front three were dropping really deep to get the ball and we knew our game plan was working.

"Ismaila Sarr is a crazy good talent, he's so calm in front of goal and has electric pace. Buzzing.

"It's not hard is it, football?! We stuck to our task and took our chances when they came.

"We took a lot of belief when we played them at Anfield, I thought we were the better team then. There is a load more work to go."
