  2. England win after goalkeeper error - read the report

    Portugal 0-1 England

BBC Sport at Estádio do Bonfim

    Beth Mead

Beth Mead capitalised on a goalkeeping error as England ended a run of five games without a win by beating Portugal 1-0 in a friendly in Setubal.

Patricia Morais dropped a routine catch from Alex Greenwood's delivery and Mead pounced to smash in from a yard out.

It had come moments after Morais had made a good close-range block to deny Jodie Taylor.

Claudia Neta almost snatched a late equaliser when she hit the crossbar with a free-kick in stoppage time.

  3. Wales back to normal service - Ludlow

    Belarus 0-1 Wales

Wales manager Jayne Ludlow hailed their 1-0 win in Belarus as a "great result" for their Women's Euro 2021 qualifying campaign.

  5. 'They have to put on a performance against Germany'

    Portugal 0-1 England

    Alex Scott

    Ex-England international on BBC Four

Steph Houghton, Lucy Bronze and others will know they were not at their best again today and they will need a massive improvement against Germany. But it stops that stat of not getting a win.

The history is there against Germany, you're playing with the crowd there. This will help them know they have to put on a performance.

  6. 'Taylor made the difference'

    Portugal 0-1 England

    Rachel Brown-Finnis

    Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC Four

Jodie Taylor wasn't at her best on Saturday but she made a difference tonight. She's that target number nine, she won't drop too deep.

If these didn't feel like competitive games then the Germany game definitely will, there's a lot riding on that game.

  7. Post update

    Portugal 0-1 England

England's next match will be a completely different occasion.

They take on Germany at Wembley on Saturday, 9 November with more than 70,000 tickets already sold for that one. The game is also live on BBC One.

  8. 'Positive'

    Portugal 0-1 England

    Alex Scott

    Ex-England international on BBC Four

England improved in the second half and there was more fluidity. They gave more in the second half and I'd say it was a positive.

  10. 'An error that should never be made'

    Portugal 0-1 England

    Rachel Brown-Finnis

    Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC Four

Putting Lucy Bronze back to right-back gave us impetus and almost sent us back to basics because we know what she gives us there.

We spent a lot more time in Portugal's final third, the keeper must shut her eyes, it's an error that should never be made. We say as a keeper practice your bread and butter so it always happens.

  11. Post update

    Portugal 0-1 England

    Sue Smith

Former England forward on BBC Four

The most important thing tonight was getting that win so hopefully the momentum will start to build again now.

  12. FULL-TIME

    Portugal 0-1 England

A win is a win. England scrape the victory, but there was not much to get excited about.

A horrendous goalkeeping error gives Phil Neville's side their first win since the World Cup as Beth Mead scored from almost on the line after Patricia Morais dropped an easy cross into the box.

  13. Post update

    Portugal 0-1 England

    Sue Smith

Former England forward on BBC Four

Oh wow! What a free-kick that is. Ellie Roebuck does so well. I'm not sure she knew much about it but she's managed to lift her foot up and collect the ball.

  14. HITS THE WOODWORK - Portugal

    Portugal 0-1 England

Almost the injury-time equaliser. Claudia Neto's free-kick hits the underside of the crossbar, bounces off the back of Ellie Roebuck before the England goalkeeper gratefully gathers the ball on the line.

  15. Post update

    Portugal 0-1 England

A free-kick right on the edge of the penalty area gives Portugal a chance for a dramatic 93rd-minute equaliser.

  16. Post update

    Portugal 0-1 England

    Into injury time.

  17. Post update

    Portugal 0-1 England

It has not been thrilling, but let's not forget that Portugal have not had a shot on target and not even had a corner. England needed a confidence-building win and, although they were gifted the goal, they are heading for just that.

  18. Post update

    Portugal 0-1 England

    Sue Smith

Former England forward on BBC Four

I really wanted there to be a goal at the end of that attack. The build-up from the back, which we know Phil Neville likes to do, was brilliant. Nikita Parris just couldn't get enough power on the header.

  19. CLOSE!

    Portugal 0-1 England

We've not seen too much excitement from England tonight but this was a lovely passing move that took them quickly from one end of the pitch to the other. It ends with Nikita Parris heading wide.

Nineteen-year-old Lauren Hemp, who plays for Manchester City, then comes on for her England debut.
