By James Law and Michael Beardmore

All times stated are UK

  1. Five down, one to go

    Casey Stoney

That's our WSL coverage done for the day but we'll be back from 19:15 BST on Monday as reigning champions Arsenal go to an ambitious Manchester United side, who were promoted last season under the guidance of Casey Stoney.

We'll have radio and live text coverage of that one.

    Thank you for joining us.

  2. Sunday recap

    Spurs celebrate

It's been almost five hours since Reading and Manchester City kicked off our feast of WSL action, so here are the headlines from Sunday's games...

    • Chelsea need a stoppage-time equaliser from sub Adelina Engman to rescue a point at Brighton
    • A Rachel Furness penalty was enough to beat Liverpool and give Tottenham their first win since being promoted
    • Pauline Bremer's double beat Reading to give Manchester City successive wins to start the season
    • Two stunning goals from Chloe Kelly were enough to give Everton all three points against Bristol City
    • Adriana Leon's first-half strike sees West Ham beat Birmingham

You can read our comprehensive, one-stop shop round-up of all the action here.

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

That's it. The Hammers have held out, after eight minutes of stoppage time, to get off the mark for the season.

Birmingham will feel mightily unlucky not to have earned a point as Lucy Staniforth twice went so close to a second-half equaliser after Adriana Leon's first-half opener for West Ham.

That's two 1-0 defeats on the spin for Blues, while the Hammers quickly put their narrow 2-1 opening-day loss at reigning champions Arsenal behind them.

    Lucy Staniforth.

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

Lucy Staniforth again lets fly with a rocket from 30-odd yards but Hammers keeper Courtney Brosnan, at full stretch, superbly tips it around the post.

Brilliant save. The ensuing corner causes more panic but West Ham manage to scramble it clear.

  5. Post update

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

West Ham are keeping the ball in the corner and look odds-on to record a first win of the season. Birmingham will have one last chance to get the ball forward.

  6. Post update

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

Birmingham continuing to work the ball into good situations and drag West Ham's defence out of position but keeper Courtney Brosnan deals with a cross from Sarah Mayling who then puts her second delivery out of play.

    Into stoppage time now.

  7. Post update

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

More neat build-up play from Birmingham as Sarah Mayling finds Abbi Grant just inside the area but her effort is straight at Hammers keeper Courtney Brosnan.

    Not long left now.

  8. Post update

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

Even now, West Ham are not thinking about sitting back on their 1-0 lead. Adriana Leon wants a second goal but is twice denied by some solid Birmingham defending.

Blues need the ball up the other end of pitch sharpish.

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

Oh my goodness! West Ham keeper Courtney Brosnan has had a right escape there!

Lucy Staniforth unleashes a howitzer from 30 yards. Brosnan seems to have it covered but fumbles it on to the post. It drops back on the line and the relieved keeper drops on it.

    So, so unlucky for Birmingham.

  10. CHANCE!

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

Well, West Ham really should have wrapped up the three points there.

Martha Thomas took advantage of some indecision in the Birmingham defence to burst into the box, only to shank her finish wide.

In her defence, Thomas was slightly off balance but will West Ham rue that miss?

Birmingham bring on Connie Scofield for Chloe Arthur as they continue to seek an equaliser.

  11. Post update

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

A bit of panic in the West Ham box as Gilly Flaherty hacks over her own bar. Blues are getting some dangerous balls in from the right in particular but time is running out for them to find a leveller.

  12. WSL highlights: Everton 2-0 Bristol City

So West Ham still lead thanks to Adriana Leon's finish from the edge of the box in the first half.

But as good as it was, Leon's strike pales into comparison with the two stunning goals from Chloe Kelly that gave Everton all three points against Bristol City in the WSL earlier today.

Check out those strikes below - the second goal alone is worth a few repeat views!

  13. Post update

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

Claudia Walker is looking the likeliest to create an equaliser for Birmingham and she jinks down the right wing before crossing for Sarah Mayling, who takes a touch but can only shoot straight at Hammers keeper Courtney Brosnan from around 12 yards.

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

Norway international defender Cecilie Kvamme comes on for West Ham, replacing Erin Simon.

Are the Hammers happy to sit on their lead? It appears not as they push forward with earlier substitute Alisha Lehmann tests Blues keeper Hannah Hampton with a well-struck effort from 20 yards.

  15. Post update

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

    West Ham v Birmingham

Birmingham have had some pretty high-profile departures over the past few months, not least England striker Ellen White to Manchester City, plus manager Marc Skinner leaving for America.

This could be a transitional season for them but they are in danger of starting it with back-to-back defeats after losing at home to Everton on the opening day.

  16. Post update

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

It's Blues' turn to go close as Rebecca Holloway sees an effort blocked by West Ham defenders from a corner delivered by former Hammer Brianna Visalli.

End to end now, this game. Next goal is key.

  17. Post update

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

That free-kick I mentioned led to a spell of West Ham pressure that ended with goalscorer Adriana Leon fizzing a ball across the six-yard box that Blues defender Kerys Harrop gratefully hacked clear.

Now it's Birmingham's turn to have a free-kick - but Harrop is penalised for a pretty blatant push when the ball arrives in the box.

  18. Post update

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

A chance goes begging for West Ham as Gilly Flaherty rises highest to meet a corner but can only nod it wide.

The Hammers now have a free-kick midway into Birmingham's half.

  19. CLOSE!

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

Bright start from the visitors who almost get back on level terms. Claudia Walker finds space on the edge of the area but drills her effort inches wide of West Ham keeper Courtney Brosnan's far post.

  20. Second half

    West Ham 1-0 Birmingham

Under way again in our final game of the afternoon.

Can the Hammers protect, or even build on, the advantage that Adriana Leon's first-half finish has given them?
