Eighty ties are place in second qualifying round, which is three hurdles from the first round proper of this year’s FA Cup, including today’s featured match between Irlam and York City.
North West Counties League Premier Division side Irlam have beaten Ashton Athletic, Stocksbridge Park and Charnock to reach today’s second qualifying round. The Salford-based side, who play in the ninth tier, will hope to go one better than last season after being knocked out at this stage last year.
York City enter at this round and their most notable run in the competition came when they reached the semi-finals of the 1954–55 campaign, which saw forward Arthur Bottom score eight goals on the club’s prolific run before they were knocked out by Newcastle United.
York were defeated in the first round proper in last year’s competition season by Swindon Town but are currently unbeaten in the National League North this season.
