    On his backroom staff: "Jody Morris is coming with me as Assistant Head Coach. We have a really close relationship and he has a great link with the Academy here and he is a fantastic coach.

    "Chris Jones was with me at Derby and he will come here. Joe Edwards will move up from working with the Under-23s and Eddie Newton will also be working with the first-team.

    "It's a very Chelsea-orientated team but it is not an old boys' club.

    "As a club, it's not just bringing in players who played for the club, but people who feel the club and have an incredible work ethic."

    On whether he would call it the biggest challenge of his career: "Yes I would. My playing career is done. You start again as a manager. I should be judged on what I do here, going forward."

    On losing Eden Hazard: ”From the outside, it seemed like something that was really imp to Eden personally and he left on a very good note. I, as a Chelsea fan, felt like he gave this club such pleasure and we are thankful that he was here.

    “It’s not one to dwell on and we wish him well. You lose one great player of course, but what we have in the team is already a very strong squad.

    “Our players won’t fill Eden’s boots, as he’s unique, but part of my job now is to develop the great young players we have here."
