    FT: Burnley 3-0 Southampton

... but a disappointing start to Ralph Hasenhuttl's first full season in charge at Southampton.

After a very even first half, Burnley blew Southampton away in 12 second half minutes thanks to a double from Ashley Barnes and a neat finish by Johann Berg Gudmundsson.

You can follow reaction to all of today's Premier League games over here.

    Thanks for joining!

  2. FULL-TIME

    Burnley 3-0 Southampton

What a perfect start for Burnley!

  3. Post update

    Burnley 3-0 Southampton

Burnley are happy to see out a more than satisfactory 3-0 win to begin their campaign, and are limiting Southampton while crushing any hopes of a dramatic fightback.

Sean Dyche will be beaming in his post-match interview.

  4. SUBSTITUTION

    Burnley 3-0 Southampton

    Jay Rodriguez on

"He's one of our own" the crowd chant once more.

Jay Rodriguez is back at Turf Moor, on in place of goalscorer Ashley Barnes.

Aaron Lennon is also on for the hosts, as Dwight McNeil is withdrawn.

  5. Post update

    Burnley 3-0 Southampton

Southampton are trying to claw something back here and force a corner through their efforts.

They're left wide open to a Burnley counter however, as the Clarets flood forward in numbers.

The Saints deal with the danger, as Burnley's summer addition Jay Rodriguez gets ready to enter the action.

  6. GOAL - Burnley 3-0 Southampton

    Johann Berg Gudmundsson

    Johann Berg Gudmundsson scores

That's a lovely finish from Johann Berg Gudmundsson, who breaks clear down the right and curls the ball across Angus Gunn and into the far post from a tight angle.

There's a quick VAR review after Southampton's players felt there was a foul in the build-up, but it stands.

What a start to the season this is turning out to be for Burnley!

  7. Post update

    Burnley 2-0 Southampton

Southampton make their final two changes of the afternoon as they seek a way back into the contest.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Sofiane Boufal are on for Jack Stephens and Che Adams.

  8. GOAL Burnley 2-0 Southampton

    Ashley Barnes

Ashley Barnes celebrates scoring his second goal

Another one for Barnes, another one for Burnley.

Seven minutes after scoring the opener, Ashley Barnes fires in his second from another Erik Pieters cross to put the hosts in control of this one.

  9. SUBSTITUTION

    Burnley 1-0 Southampton

That opener has prompted Ralph Hassenhuttl to make his first change of the afternoon.

Off comes striker Danny Ings, who hasn't been able to have much of an impact today, and on comes 19-year-old Michael Obafemi

  10. GOAL - Burnley 1-0 Southampton

    Ashley Barnes

    Ashley Barnes opens the scoring

A first shot on target and a first goal of the season for Burnley!

It's a really well-taken goal by Ashley Barnes, who brings down Erik Pieters' cross on the edge of the area before firing through the legs of Angus Gunn to send the Clarets ahead.

  11. Post update

    Burnley 0-0 Southampton

A half-chance for Nathan Redmond, who receives the ball on the edge of the box and attempts to whip a shot into the top corner.

Leaning back, his shot travels well over and the winger looks visibly frustrated that he didn't make more of that.

  12. Post update

    Burnley 0-0 Southampton

Erik Pieters has thumped the ball at Danny Ings at close range and it has taken Ings a little while to get back on his feet after that.

Burnley earn their first corner of the match soon after but the ball just won't fall correctly for James Tarkowski and Saints keeper Angus Gunn is able to gather.

  13. Post update

    Burnley 0-0 Southampton

Ward-Prowse stands over the free-kick but runs over the ball to make way for Ryan Betrand who arrows a curling, left-footed shot just over the crossbar.

  14. Post update

    Burnley 0-0 Southampton

Nathan Redmond wriggles his way to the edge of the Burnley penalty area and earns a free-kick in a very promising position for Southampton.

    A James Ward-Prowse special incoming?

  16. Post update

    Burnley 0-0 Southampton

Eight of the nine Premier League games between these two has been goalless at half-time, so we shouldn't be too surprised to see this scoreline at this point in proceedings.

    Not surprised, just disappointed.

A slow start to the second half, as new Burnley signing Erik Pieters fires high and wide from a long way out.

  17. KICK-OFF

    Burnley 0-0 Southampton

    We are back underway!

    Some goals, please.

  18. HALF-TIME

    Burnley 0-0 Southampton

Burnley send a free-kick towards the Southampton box from the halfway line, but it comes to nothing at all and that will be that for the first half at Turf Moor.

No goals - following a VAR review for offside after Chris Woods had bundled the ball in for Burnley - but a couple of red card reviews for Che Adams and Johann Berg Gudmundsson have kept things interesting.

  19. Post update

    Burnley 0-0 Southampton

Back down the other end and Burnley striker Ashley Barnes takes a wild swing at a cross, leaving the hosts still without a shot on target as half time approaches.

Ashley Barnes puts his head in his hands
  20. CLOSE!

    Burnley 0-0 Southampton

Nathan Redmond with the best chance of the first half!

The winger drives into the box from the left wing before unleashing a powerful, rising shot narrowly over Nick Pope's goal.

Excellent play by Redmond who was too quick for the Burnley back line on that occasion.
