    Ali: Congratulations Portugal!

Stu: Netherlands have some great young players but I think a lack of experience cost them tonight

  3. Post update

Now its the Portugal players' turn to step up for the winners' medals before getting ready to lift the Nations League trophy.

Skipper Ronaldo is the first to pick it up and he carries it over to the podium...

Sho: Portugal absolutely deserved to win tonight. Miles the better side. Netherlands did absolutely nothing with the ball.

Ninos Simon: If the Dutch actually possessed a half decent striker wow what a side they'd be. Portugal however looking very strong, real pool of attacking talent there.

Stu: Portugal seem like a team that knows how to win International tournaments.

    Portugal win Nations League final

Gonçalo Guedes' superb strike is the difference and in truth Portugal were deserved winners.

The Netherlands paid the price for an appalling lack of threat in front of goal. It took them well over an hour to register a shot on target.

Mepmhis Depay cross, Portugal clear but only as far as Virgil van Dijk. The ball comes back in, Luuk de Jong fluffs an overhead before Rui Patricio gathers the ball to a chorus of relieved cheers.

    Almost there.

    Portugal 1-0 Netherlands

The 90 minutes are up and we are into the first of three minutes of time added on.

The Portugal fans think victory is there's as they've found their voice once again.

    Portugal 1-0 Netherlands

Cristiano Ronaldo has been a supporting actor rather than the main man in this game but he has the chance to grab the headlines with a free-kick. It's not one to add to his classic collection, however, as he skews his effort wide.

    Portugal 1-0 Netherlands

Joao Moutinho goes down inside the box as a tackle from behind comes in from Daley Blind, the crowd are screaming for a penalty but nothing is given.

Nélson Semedo then fizzes in a low shot that Jasper Cillessen holds. Some welcome action at the other end of the pitch for the hosts.

    Portugal 1-0 Netherlands

Donny van de Beek is onto a flick on and Rui Patricio has to push his effort behind for a corner. Substitute Luuk de Jong then heads wide as the Netherlands continue to push.

You can definitely sense the nerves in the crowd now as the game enters the closing stages. Bruno Fernandes tries again from distance but Jasper Cillessen has time to get in position and make the save.

That's Fernandes final contribution as he makes way for João Moutinho. Meanwhile, Luuk de Jong is on for the Netherlands.

    Portugal 1-0 Netherlands

Ronald Koeman wheels away in frustration as he watches Marten de Roon thump an effort from 25 yards over the bar. Should have done better there.

Still just the one effort on target for the visitors.

    Portugal 1-0 Netherlands

Rafa Silva's fresh legs enable him to carry the ball up the pitch quickly and give the Portugal defence a much needed break. That's what he was brought on for.

Just 13 minutes for the hosts to hold on.

    Portugal 1-0 Netherlands

First change for Portugal and it is goalscorer Gonçalo Guedes who leaves the pitch. He is replaced by Benfica midfielder Rafa.
