  1. 'Elements of their play equate to progress'

    FT: England 1-2 Sweden

    Rachel Brown-Finnis

Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

I have seen elements of England's play that equates to progress but it hasn't been over 90 minutes. The two games we lost were against two teams that managed the game well.

Both the USA and Sweden dropped off and managed their lead and England could not find any way through.

  2. 'We won back home'

    England 1-2 Sweden

    Alex Scott

    Ex-England international on BBC One

I love that we are talking about winning now and that is how it is should be. England are in position now constantly getting to this stage of the competition so the next step is winning, moving forward. What we have won is we have won back home. We have changed opinions.

  3. Post update

    FT: England 1-2 Sweden

Phil Neville tells BBC Sport it was a "nonsense game"...

    BBC Sport in Nice

Ellen White and Beth Mead are the first England players to do a lap of the pitch to applaud the travelling support.

White's missed out on the bronze medal and the golden boot, which for someone who has impressed in front of goal so much in this tournament, must be absolutely gutting.

  5. Rate the players

Were you disappointed with England's performance or do you think there were a few standout players? And what about Sweden defender Nilla Fischer - does she get a decent rating? You can rate the performances here.

    FT: England 1-2 Sweden

    Caroline Chapman

    BBC Sport in Nice

Just like in the semi-finals, England are left on their knees on the pitch as the opposition celebrate around them.

Fran Kirby is consoled by her team mates as the winners' plinth is built next to her.

Eventually they all get up and group together, but they just look physically and emotionally spent.

  8. Post update

    FT: England 1-2 Sweden

Fran Kirby is consoled by Phil Neville. Alex Greenwood is fighting to hold back the tears too. The players huddle together for their usual team talk.

Neville grabs Karen Carney and stands her beside him.

  9. 'First 25 minutes cost England'

    FT: England 1-2 Sweden

    Lindsay Johnson

Ex-England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

That first 25 minutes has cost England in this game.

They were the better team after that but the quality wasn't there to get the equaliser. It is so disappointing for this England side to finish in this way.

    FT: England 1-2 Sweden

There's tears from some of the Sweden players. Kosovare Asllani is beside herself!

  11. Post update

    FT: England 1-2 Sweden

The Sweden players race onto the pitch to celebrate. England's players fall to the floor. They look devastated and exhausted.

Karen Carney, who has just played her final match of her career, walks around the pitch applauding the fans. She doesn't look happy.

  12. FULL-TIME

    England 1-2 Sweden

Sweden have done it - they finish third in the World Cup! England miss out on a bronze medal and finish in fourth, a position below their achievements of 2015.

    Sweden celebrate
  13. YELLOW CARD

    England 1-2 Sweden

Karen Carney's cross is headed clear and Jade Moore has to bring the player down on the halfway line to prevent Sweden from breaking forward.

She takes the yellow card but I think that's it for England.

Archie: Reaching 3 major semi finals against other teams that are part-time is not a success. If we can't reach a final now what chance have we got when other countries match our funding?

Ragney: If the Lionesses fail to finish 3rd, they have gone backwards. Will it be the; Players, Coaches, or Manager that has to answer questions!

  15. Post update

    England 1-2 Sweden

Cross after cross from England but none of them are finding a target. Rachel Daly's from the right comes all the way through to the back post but Alex Greenwood can't keep it in play.

  16. Post update

    England 1-2 Sweden

    Caroline Chapman

    BBC Sport in Nice

Phil Neville is running up and down the touchline like he's about to sub himself on! He's so desperate for a late goal here.

    Phil Neville
  17. GREAT SAVE!

    England 1-2 Sweden

Sweden almost make it 3-1 on the counter-attack but Carly Telford pulls off a brilliant save with her leg.

England go straight up the other end - they are throwing the kitchen sink at it!

  18. INJURY TIME

    England 1-2 Sweden

    FOUR minutes to go.

  19. Post update

    England 1-2 Sweden

    Caroline Chapman

    BBC Sport in Nice

Nilla Fischer did not even flinch when that ball from Lucy Bronze struck her square on the noggin. Absolute nails!

  20. Post update

    England 1-2 Sweden

Karen Carney then has a pop from long-range but it doesn't trouble the keeper.
