  1. Time to lower the curtain

    FT: Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

Well, there was the odd bit of stage fright but Boro ultimately got through this matinee Sunday afternoon showing with the three points they desperately wanted.

It was Pulis, not Mowbray, lifting today's Tony award as Boro saw off 10-man Rovers without breaking a leg, thankfully for them.

They did, however, suffer another injury with George Friend joining a growing treatment room list.

That's a worry for another day, though - all that remains is to say thanks for joining us and goodbye.

  2. What it means

    FT: Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

It's an important win for Middlesbrough.

Not only does it solidify their hold on a top-six spot - lifting Boro to fifth above Bristol City and three points above seventh-placed Derby - it also keeps them in the hunt for automatic promotion.

Tony Pulis' men have a game in hand on both of the top two.

Blackburn, meanwhile, remain 14th and the 10-point gap to the top six is surely a bridge too far for Tony Mowbray's side in their first season back in the Championship.

    FT: Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough match-winner Britt Assombalonga tells Sky Sports:

"We really needed those three points especially after what happened at Sheffield United. To get the three points is perfect for us.

"We just have to see how it goes. We just have to keep winning - there are still 14 games left and you never know what might happen."

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

    Britt Assombalonga

Britt Assombalonga's first-half header - his 12th goal of the season - has handed Middlesbrough a vital win in their promotion quest, lifting them to fifth place in the Championship table.

Blackburn performed much better in the second half despite being reduced to 10 men by Derrick Williams' dismissal on the stroke of half-time.

But it's a fourth defeat on the spin for Rovers.

  5. Post update

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

Rovers keeper David Raya goes up for it. Elliott Bennett wins the first header but Boro stopper Darren Randolph claims. And that's that.

  6. Post update

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

Last chance saloon for Rovers as they earn a corner...

  7. Post update

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough have managed these last few minutes expertly after that chance for Rovers' Bradley Dack.

They have kept the ball in Rovers' third of the pitch, frustrating the hosts and seeing out precious time.

It's surely beyond the 10 men of Blackburn now?

  8. CLOSE!

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

Boro so close to a second again as John Mikel Obi's slide rule ball finds Stewart Downing but, under pressure from Elliott Bennett, the veteran fizzes inches over.

Three minutes of added time have been indicated.

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

David Raya produces a save to match Darren Randolph's stop at the other end moments earlier.

He sticks out a strong right hand to foil Britt Assombalonga's well-struck effort. And it's a double save as the ball threatens to loop in off the keeper's arm but he gets up to paw it away for a corner.

  10. Post update

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

Blackburn have never lost four games on the spin under Tony Mowbray but they are staring that unwanted statistic in the face unless they can salvage something late on here.

Boro keeper Darren Randolph happy to waste a few seconds with a goal-kick.

  11. Post update

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

    Five minutes to go.

Can 10-man Blackburn find an unlikely leveller?

Boro will only have themselves to blame if they do.

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

What a stop from Darren Randolph to preserve Middlesbrough's lead.

The Republic of Ireland keeper makes a superb one-handed save down to his right from Bradley Dack's volley after Danny Graham nodded down Charlie Mulgrew's free-kick.

    Rovers thought they were level.

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

Off goes Fletcher after that missed opportunity. On comes Jordan Hugill to partner Britt Assombalonga up front for the final nine minutes plus stoppage time.

Lewis Wing fires another chance over for Boro not long after Hugill's introduction.

The 10 men of Rovers are still in this - and they have a free-kick out wide....

  14. Post update

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

Chances coming at both ends now as Boro's Ashley Fletcher finds space in the area but side-foots straight at David Raya.

He hit the target admittedly but should really have done more with that.

  15. CHANCE

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

Was that the chance for 10-man Rovers to rescue a point?

It falls to the man they would want - Danny Graham - as the former Boro man beats Ryan Shotton to a loose ball in the box.

But the ball won't come down quick enough and Graham steers a rushed effort over.

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

Ooh, Boro keeper Darren Randolph will have had a few palpitations there.

He's had nothing to do all game but watches nervously on as Amari'i Bell's cross clips the top of the bar. That would have been a fluke goal to match the best of them.

  17. Post update

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

    Massive let-off for 10-man Rovers.

As with Boro's opener, Charlie Mulgrew foolishly lets a high ball bounce, then slips trying to deal with it. Luckily for him, Britt Assombalonga cannot capitalise on this occasion, failing to bring the ball under control with a clear run on goal at his mercy.

The ball breaks to Jonny Howson, who fires well over.

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

On comes Downing, as expected, for Mo Besic.

He will have the chance to make an immediate impact as Boro have a corner. But Lewis Wing's delivery gets nowhere near Downing - or any other Middlesbrough player for that matter - as Rovers keeper David Raya claims comfortably.

  19. CLOSE!

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

Jonny Howson's cross almost catches out Rovers keeper David Raya but the Spaniard recovers to tip it over the crossbar.

That would have been an embarrassing one for the Blackburn stopper. No way Howson meant that.

  20. Post update

    Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Middlesbrough

    Tony Pulis

The problem with Tony Mowbray's decision to make three half-time substitutes is that he has put all of his eggs into one basket, so to speak.

Mowbray has no more replacements to use while Boro boss Tony Pulis is preparing to bring on former England wide man Stewart Downing.
