  1. Roll on the World Cup draw

    FT: Scotland 0-1 USA

The preparations for France 2019 start in earnest next year.

Scotland will find out their World Cup opponents soon, with the tournament draw in Paris on 8 December.

Shelley Kerr's team equipped themselves well tonight and should be full of confidence after a good showing against the world's number one side.

  2. 'We matched them mentally and physically'

    FT: Scotland 0-1 USA

Scotland head coach Shelley Kerr is off for a well earned holiday after a memorable campaign, taking the nation to the World Cup for the first time.

"Although we don't like losing, it's a great way for us to end a fantastic year with a narrow loss to the world champions," she tells BBC Scotland.

"What I am confident about is the way we tactically set up. We covered every single detail and prepared well. We had a game plan and we matched them mentally and physically.

"They showed their quality at times. The speed in the final third and in the wide areas caused us some problems. For long spells we didn't have the ball and that's something we need to develop.

"But we did created chances against the world champions and at the end they were putting on subs, wasting time to see the game out.

    "Overall, I'm really pleased."

  3. USA go marching on

    FT: Scotland 0-1 USA

USA end 2018 unbeaten, winning 18 of their 20 matches.

That stretches their run without a loss to 28 games, with an aggregate score of 93-17.

The three-time World Cup winners have now gone 884 minutes without conceding a goal.

  4. Scotland coach Kerr 'tactically very astute'

    FT: Scotland 0-1 USA

    Willie Miller

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: It's been tactically very astute from Shelley Kerr. The way she changed the formation really caused them a problem or two. Scotland created three four chances and showed a really good attitude
  5. 'We matched them right until the end'

    FT: Scotland 0-1 USA

Scotland captain Rachel Corsie is named player of the match.

"It epitomises the year we've had," she tells BBC Scotland. "We worked so hard together and they found it hard to break us down.

"We'll face a team of this calibre at the World Cup, possibly quite early on. We were strong towards the end. The USA are renowned for their fitness and we matched them right until the end.

"Now we can go into the new year and we can step up our preparations. The World Cup will be a step up from this."

  6. Home heads held high

    FT: Scotland 0-1 USA

Scotland can be proud. They pushed the World Cup holders all the way in Paisley.

Okay, the visitors didn't have all of their star players on show but they did have a strong side and Scotland were also missing some key personnel.

The only goal came from Alex Morgan, a lovely first-half volley, while USA captain Carli Lloyd smashed a penalty kick against the crossbar.

  7. FULL-TIME Scotland 0-1 USA

USA keeping the ball near the corner flag, running down the clock. And that's it...

  8. Post update

    Scotland 0-1 USA

Off goes Erin Cuthbert on another exciting burst and she has her shirt tugged as she shoots. A free kick to Scotland about 22 yards out... Caroline Weir's effort is disappointing though, slamming into the defensive wall.

  9. Squad depth bodes well for Scotland

    Scotland 0-1 USA

    Julie Fleeting

Former Scotland striker on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: I think Shelley is confident in the ability of the players she set out on the pitch tonight. You can see the depth in the squad. We had four missing from the starting eleven and we've now introduced another six and still look a strong side
  10. No new record

    Scotland 0-1 USA

The attendance in Paisley is 3790 - a little bit short of the record 4,098 crowd for the World Cup qualifying win over Switzerland back in August.

  11. Scotland 'having a right go'

    Willie Miller

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: It's a different Scotland after the changes. We're playing with three up and one off. They're having a right go.
  12. Post update

    Scotland 0-1 USA

Off comes Fiona Brown and on comes Lizzie Arnot. Can the Manchester United winger make an impression as Scotland's sixth substitute?

  13. Post update

    Scotland 0-1 USA

A cute ball over the top from Christie Murray finds Lana Clelland racing into space behind the USA defence but her first time effort is comfortably pushed away by goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris.

Scotland are going for it now and look menacing in the final third.

Lana Clelland goes close with a shot for Scotland
  14. 'Defensively, Shelley will be happy'

    Scotland 0-1 USA

    Willie Miller

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: The USA have had the sting taken out of them by how well organised Scotland have been. Defensively, I think Shelley can be more than happy about how they've shaped up and their attitude
  15. Post update

    Scotland 0-1 USA

The game is stretched now as USA goalscorer Alex Morgan gathers the ball and races into the penalty area from the left only to drive her shot into the side-netting.

  16. Post update

    Scotland 0-1 USA

A great bustling run from Erin Cuthbert takes her to the edge of the USA penalty box where she works a neat one-two with Lana Clelland. However, she is crowded out by defenders in white and can't get a clean contact on the return pass.

  17. Post update

Lana Clelland, fresh from winning the Italian Super Cup with Fiorentina, replaces striker Jane Ross as Scotland press for an equaliser in the final 15 minutes.

  18. Can Murray make her mark?

    Scotland 0-1 USA

    Julie Fleeting

Former Scotland striker on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: Christie Murray has an awful lot to give the team. I wonder if they'll move Erin Cuthbert back one space, somebody's that going to run about put challenges in, and allow Christie to get on the ball and try and support Jane Ross
  19. Post update

    Scotland 0-1 USA

A Caroline Weir free kick is headed clear from the USA penalty box into the path of Christie Murray but the Scotland substitute isn't warmed up yet as she drags her shot miles wide of the target.

  20. Post update

    Scotland 0-1 USA

Another change for Scotland as Liverpool midfielder Christie Murray takes over from Jo Love, who gets a warm round of applause in her home town.
