  1. Post update

Connor Wickham hadn't played since late November 2016, when Swansea beat Crystal Palace 5-4...

  2. Wickham back

    Everton 2-0 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

    Connor Wickham

Palace boss Roy Hodgson on Connor Wickham's return from injury after a two-year absence: "He has worked so very hard to get into that position where he is deemed fit enough to get on the bench.

"We would not have risked him for a long period of the game. I’m sure he will be pleased to have got on the field for Palace in a Premier League game and hopefully it will give him hope and heart. He has still got a lot of hard work to do on the training field."

  3. 'We must accept our fate'

    Everton 2-0 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

    Cenk Tosun

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson to BBC: "Football does not give you what you deserve, it is a question of results.

"All you can do is hope the team played well enough to get a result – had we won even or certainly drawn no-one would have begrudged us that.

"But the bottom line was the game was lost to us on the 1-0 – there was not enough time to get back into it.

"It was a harsh blow to have defended so well and to then concede with just three minutes left, but the fact is it is a hard game and all you can do is accept your fate, whether we deserved it is neither here nor there. We must make sure that next Sunday against Arsenal we are as hard to beat as today.

"Every game in the Premier League is a tough assignment."

  4. 'We deserved the win'

    Everton 2-0 Crystal Palace

    Marco Silva

Everton manager Marco Silva on Sky Sports: "A tough game, like we expected and like I told our players as well. Palace are well organised, waiting for our mistakes and on the counter-attack with Zaha and Townsend.

"We were too slow in the first half, but we pushed them back in the second half. They missed the penalty, a good save, but in the end we deserved the three points.

"Jordan Pickford has the quality to play at a higher level, helping us and the national team as well. He is there to help the team and at that moment he helped.

"We [the staff] are here to make decisions, it is not just the starting XI. The three players who came on were aggressive, it is really good and I'm very happy for them.

"We have solutions on the bench."

  5. Post update

For those of you asking about Roy and making subs, he says; "I didn't need to make any changes for 87 minutes."

  6. 'Hard to stand here a loser'

    Everton 2-0 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

    Roy Hodgson

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson to Sky Sports: "Two goals in the last few minutes, the first one was the killer. It was a massive blow after defending so well and missing the penalty.

"It's hard to stand here as a loser again. I could easily be a winner or at least someone who has coached his team to a positive point. They scored the goals and we didn't.

"I asked them to make certain they gave 100% and matched Everton for commitment, they certainly did that. The mood is very sombre because we were so close to a good result, and nobody could have begrudged us it.

"It was a good penalty save but Pickford also made two outstanding saves in the first half. Penalties do get missed, goalkeepers do make saves. You expect to score them.

"To ask me to come up with some magic formula to try and win the next few games is an impossible question right now. Let's hope that on the next occasion the goals go in at the right end for us."

Goals or garbage is a good name for a round-up show Steve. Might nick that one.

Stephen: I thought it was a entertaining game before the goals, is football in 2018 goals or garbage? Fast paced, physical contest with a exciting end, great game

  10. 'Devastating'

    Everton 2-0 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

    Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka on Sky Sports: "It's devastating to lose in the last minutes of the game, we played well and created chances in the second half.

"The plan was to defend first, not concede and take our chances, but we didn't take enough. We didn't play badly, we will learn from this game.

"We stick together and keep fighting."

That's two wins in 15 games on a Sunday for Everton now...

    Everton 2-0 Crystal Palace

    Pat Nevin

Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 live

For Palace Wilfried Zaha is the man - so many players are drawn towards him when he gets the ball, three or four straight away, because everybody knows now - stop Zaha and stop Palace.

Coming up for them are a lot of games that will be hard to win.

  13. "I don't practice many'

    Everton 2-0 Crystal Palace

    Jordan Pickford

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford on Sky Sports: "I just looked at his run up and he normally whips it, I left my leg dangling and managed to get a foot on it. It was a game changer as it got the crowd going, and we needed that. I don't practice many penalties! I don't mind taking them but don't really practice saving many."

  14. 'Everton were braver'

    Everton 2-0 Crystal Palace

    Pat Nevin

Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 live

That wasn't a great 60, 70 arguably 80 minutes - lots of hard work and organisation but something different had to happen,

It all came down to which manager was going to be brave enough to make the big calls, make the big changes, and it was Marco Silva who went to 4-2-4 and when he did that he was taking a chance.

But luck favoured the brave on this occasion and purely for that I think Everton deserved the win.

I don;t think you will see too many better substitutions this season.

Viv: One wonders why Roy Hodgson didn't make any changes for @CPFC. Zaha making most of the chances but no end product from his team. Need creative + attacking players to assist him or the club will end up losing him sooner than later!

Richard Browne: Maybe even Zaha can’t save Hodgson.

  16. Post update

Defeat leaves Palace two points above the early-season bottom three. Goals remain a big issue for the Eagles. Missing penalties away from home doesn't help.
