  1. Farewell

And on that note we are shutting this page down.

Join us shortly for Valencia v Barcelona, or tune back in later on tonight to find out who's made Garth's team of the week.

    Until then!

  2. 'We controlled their counter attack'

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said: "We competed and we controlled them in terms of the counter attack with their front three. Our back four was so good and we enjoyed a lot of patient build up, but we didn’t create much after that. It’s a good result.

"We tried to win and we didn’t concede at Anfield which is quite special. We had our chance and we tried to be ourselves."

On Mahrez: "He had the courage and the balls to take the penalty, in training he shoots perfect penalties but sometimes it happens. The usual taker is Sergio Aguero but he wasn't there. We played so well so if you want to analyse the result it was ok. Last season we lost here, and this season we drew, maybe next season we will win."

  3. Dunk called up

    Brighton & Hove Albion

A touch of news from the England camp - Brighton defender Lewis Dunk has been added to Gareth Southgate's squadto play Croatia and Spain.

  4. 'Great mental strength'

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City defender John Stones adds: "We stood strong and showed great mental strength. How we played was different to previous seaons, we used the ball better.

"We were so defensively solid. It was two tactical sides up against each other and it was fine margins either way which could have won the game."

  5. Post update

Pep Guardiola says Liverpool "are the best team in the world" if you let their front three run at you.

  6. 'Proud of the clean sheet'

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

    Manchester City

    John Stones

Speaking to Sky Sports, Man City defender John Stones said: "So close, it is one of those things in football. Riyad Mahrez was taking them really well in training all week, but it happens and we have to move on.

"It got their crowd going so we had to dig in because those moments can go both ways, so we had to keep our heads. It is progress from last season, they are a top team and to get a clean sheet at Anfield is something all of the team are really proud of.

"It was a tactical battle today and everyone put a shift in for the team."

On the decision to give Mahrez the penalty, Stones said: "I think it was just decided between the boys. He is deflated and I think he feels he let us down, but he gave everything and he kept the ball well, and had he scored it would have made his day.

"Their attacking threat is brilliant and we stopped that today. We defended as a team and not just a back four, and we kept them to the least number of chaces we could. It was always going to go right to the end."

SMS Message: Liverpool have played Spurs, PSG, Chelsea twice, Napoli and now Man City in a short amount of time. The players are clearly feeling so many big games so close to each other. A good rest needed. from Liam in Dronfield

  8. Post update

Jurgen Klopp is now off on one about how much football players play - he wants fewer games from somewhere, either at club or international level.

    Xherdan Shaqiri
SMS Message: Sadio Mane needs to be dropped. That game needed an individual bit of brilliance to unlock it, Xherdan Shaqiri? One of Klopp's few failings is that he is genuinely heinous at timing substitutions. Still take a draw from David in Glasgow

  10. Post update

I'm not sure which dressing room has music blaring out in the background of these post-match interviews but it's absolutely terrible stuff.

  11. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp still has his smile on his face - he was pleased with his side's start and says "I am really fine with it."

  12. Up against it?

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

    Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has won just one of his last eight managerial meetings with Jurgen Klopp in all competitions (D3 L4), and is winless in the most recent four (D1 L3)

  13. Not as bad as Angel

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

    Juan Pablo Angel

Among players to have taken at least 10 penalties in the Premier League, only Juan Pablo Angel (50%, 5/10) has a lower success rate than Riyad Mahrez (58%, 7/12).

  14. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

  15. 'It is not smart to dive in like that'

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

    Liverpool

    Virgil van Dijk

Speaking to Sky Sports, Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk said: "It is not smart to dive in there. It was a penalty and it shouldn't have happened, but I'm very happy we didn't concede."

Asked if he watched the penalty, van Dijk said: "I watched it because I wanted to get the rebound if he missed it.

"They did well, as did we, up until the penalty moment. We were unlucky not to score, and lucky not to concede as well, so I think we canceled each other out. It was a tough game against the champions and I'm happy we kept the clean sheet. We wanted to bounce back from our defeat to Napoli and I think we did that."

  16. How it looks

Going into the international break you could throw a tea towel over the top five, with Bournemouth not far behind.

Aaron: Mane needs benching until he sorts his selfish style out. Firmino desperately needs a break. Salah played well, he's just missing his shooting boots. Give Shaqiri and Sturridge the chance to shine after the internationals.

  19. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

Virgil van Dijk agrees with Geoff Shreeves' assertion that both sides cancelled each other out.

    Well done, Geoff.

  20. 'Both managers happy'

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

    Dion Dublin

Ex-Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

    Honours even, possibly about right.

A very dull game for 85 minutes and I expected better from both sets of players.

But both managers will be happy for not losing.
