    Newcastle 1-2 Arsenal

    And that's it!

Arsenal do see it out after two second-half goals courtesy of a lovely Granit Xhaka free-kick and Mesut Ozil.

Newcastle remain winless, but it could have been different after a promising first-half performance.

You can now follow the reaction to all the afternoon's Premier League matches here.

    Cheers for joining!

  2. Post update

    Newcastle 1-2 Arsenal

Arsenal are going to see this one out thanks to a much better second-half performance.

For the first 45 minutes they struggled but Newcastle will rue their wasted opportunities.

SMS Message: I feel sorry for Rafa as he has been handed the worst start of the Premier League season playing against Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Man City in the first 5 games and with no money for players needed to win those sorts of games. from Callum
  4. GOAL - Newcastle 1-2 Arsenal

    Ciaran Clark (90 mins)

A consolation goal or something more?

Ciaran Clark gets Newcastle on the board late on but it looks like it's going to be too little too late for the home side now.

    Newcastle 0-2 Arsenal

As I say that, the home side surge forward and almost create something as Petr Cech makes a save but momentarily loses control of the ball.

    Newcastle 0-2 Arsenal

It's fizzling out a bit at St James' Park, as Arsenal are happy to just see this result out.

    Newcastle 0-2 Arsenal

Matt Ritchie has come off, though it looked like Ayoze Perez had initially been called over.

Yoshinori Muto comes on, while Aaron Ramsey is also off for Danny Welbeck.

  8. Post update

    Newcastle 0-2 Arsenal

Arsenal are in complete control now, though you do feel a Newcastle goal could completely change that.

The pace has settled down again, and the Magpies need to disrupt that as they did in the first 45 minutes.

  9. Post update

    Newcastle 0-2 Arsenal

Henrikh Mkhitaryan gets involved, collecting Aaron Ramsey's cross but his side-footed effort is deflected into the side of the goal for an Arsenal corner.

There's a break in play however as DeAndre Yedlin is down receiving treatment. It looks like he fell awkwardly chasing Ramsey there.

    Newcastle 0-2 Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is going to come off, allowing Henrikh Mkhitaryan to join the action.

Meanwhile, Jacob Murphy is replaced by Chelsea loanee Kenedy for Newcastle.

    Newcastle 0-2 Arsenal

And that one is caught by Petr Cech.

  12. Post update

    Newcastle 0-2 Arsenal

It's getting frustrating for Newcastle, who haven't been able to match their first-half energy as they seek a way back into the contest.

They have a free-kick in Arsenal's half, though...

Simon: Newcastle heading for another loss. I call him Rafa Has Been-Itez because he's clearly past it at this point. It's time for Newcastle to find a new manager and Rafa to start thinking about his retirement.

David Ljunggren: Newcastle's keeper is really below par today. Two shots he could have saved and he fluffs them both.

  14. CLOSE!

    Newcastle 0-2 Arsenal

    And it's almost three!

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set up by Alexandre Lacazette but he drags his shot narrowly wide of the goal.

Arsenal are really going for this now.

    Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
  15. GOAL Newcastle 0-2 Arsenal

    Mesut Ozil

It has been all Arsenal so far this second half and they have really made that early dominance count.

Alexandre Lacazette's shot is blocked but the ball falls to Mesut Ozil who converts from just inside the penalty area.

Newcastle, despite dominating the first half, now have it all to do in the second.

    Mesut Ozil
  16. Post update

    Newcastle 0-1 Arsenal

Arsenal have been given much more time on the ball since the interval and that Granit Xhaka strike looks to have significantly boosted their confidence at St James' Park.

    Can the home side respond?

  17. GOAL - Newcastle 0-1 Arsenal

    Granit Xhaka

    What a strike!

There didn't appear to be too much danger but Granit Xhaka hits a wonderful free-kick from a long way out and it glides past Martin Dubravka.

    Arsenal ahead.

    Granit Xhaka
  18. KICK-OFF

    Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal

    We're back.

One change for either side at the break, as Ciaran Clark replaces Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles and Lucas Torreira comes on in place of Matteo Guendouzi for the visitors.

    Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal

    There's the whistle.

Rafael Benitez will be much the happier manager at half-time, though the Magpies have nothing to show for their efforts yet.

His side have played with energy and prevented Arsenal playing the way that Unai Emery wants them to by harrying Petr Cech and the Arsenal defence at any opportunity.

The visitors are yet to really get going.
