- Edinson Cavani's Uruguay take on Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal
- The winner will meet France in quarter-finals
- Ronaldo yet to score in a WC knockout tie
A bit like when Belle & Sebastian won the best newcomers at the Brits, I'm not sure that it is possible to be already acclaimed as brilliant AND an overnight success, but I guess there will be some people watching today who didn't know much about Kylian Mbappe.
All 180m Euros of him...
They do now.
Here's how the game was won...

Former England right-back Lee Dixon speaking to ITV: “Ronaldo is the one who looks fit and motivated. How do they get out of that situation? We were retired by someone else! But it’s up to them."
Gary Neville added: “It’s a shame if we don’t (see Messi and Ronaldo at the next World Cup). They have been incredible players. From Messi’s point of view, maybe that’s it. Ronaldo seems to want to go on forever. Can they retire? The whole weight of the nation is on their shoulders.”
Cristiano Ronaldo may have gone another game without a knockout goal but he has got his Cubs first-aid badge. Every cloud.
I've got so much time for that tweet...
It apears that Edinson Cavani has told Uruguayan TV that he has a hamstring injury.
If confirmed, that would be a massive blow...
What is this short behaviour all about?!
- SMS Message: Refereeing in both games was rather shocking today. A lot of things missed. Ronaldo understandably furious in the second game from Elliot, Borehamwood

Stephen: That Ronaldo. He HAS to do exactly what Messi does, doesn't he?!
Simmo: Everybody was right. Messi & Ronaldo are going to meet. Not in the quarterfinals but at the airport.
Amrul: Godin has to be the best central defender in World Football.

Former England defender Gary Neville speaking to ITV: “The two centre-backs played well against Cristiano Ronaldo tonight but everything that came into that box they had to clear. They will have to do that against France. They are an experienced outfit who play to their strengths."

Kylian Mbappe is growing and growing in this tournament and that will be the one thing that can beat this Uruguay defence in the quarter final. France have another gear and they will be the favourites in the next round.

Uruguay fans have traveled with real hope. One of the songs they were singing was about how they are going to be champions like they were in the first ever tournament.
They got a bit lucky because Bentancur was about to be replaced moments before he played Cavani in for the second goal.
Uruguay will not give Mbappe and co any sort of space to run in behind - be sure of that.
Seamus: Sunday has produced two great games today at #bbcworldcup - worthy of Semis to set up a Final. Mon/Tue/Wed have a tough act to follow. Can't wait :)
Jon Walter: I'm glad both Argentina and Portugal are out, there are so many better stories going on in this World Cup than Messi vs Ronaldo.
Ben Clarkson: Is anybody else salivating at the prospect of Kylian Mbappe coming up against Diego Godin? That has the potential to be a real showdown
Ex-Aston Villa striker on BBC Radio 5 live
It was an amazing game. The intensity from the fans was great as well, and Uruguay have passed the test with flying colours. They allow each department to do their job. They let the defenders defend, they let the midfielders create and they let the strikers put the ball in the back of the net.
